59cm SE Draft (dark gray w/ bullhorns, dual brakes)
stolen last night in venice from the back yard of a locked residence but not locked to anything. i know it's a long shot but please let me know if you see/hear anything. there could be some good karma in it. thanks!
moral of the story- always lock your bike up!

you can't polish a turd. low quality high tension steel, near 30lb complete bike. a windsor hour is $50 more for real road cranks (not those dogshit 3 piece bmx cranks), 4130 cromoly and formula hubs.

a better bike is NO BIKE
you are seriously better off not having a bike than you are trying to bike with that, having the crank snap off mid stroke and falling and getting hit by a car

Sorry to hear they stole your friends bike.
I used to ride a hi-ten, 30 pound, ashtabula crank, piece of shit when I was small chunky lad...
I would ride that bike all day, everyday. It held up just fine...

It's funny....when bike companies first started selling "fixed gear" bikes...everyone thought they were ALL pieces of shit. Now there is a continuum, I guess.
The whole debate was track bike v.s. 'not allowed on the track'-bike
but now all of the track bikes have been sold four plus times at ever increasing prices...and people have settled for factory fixies. So, you have to talk shit...otherwise, what fun would it be? Now it's..."oh my bianchi pista kicks your SE's ass."
Hahahahaha

robin swabin...rad! You can be the safety officer of the factory fixies!! Maybe you could start getting bikes recalled for their hazardous configurations. Then...you could get a job with the city...and argue with Steve Box every Tuesday night! It would be awesome.

Robin: "look at the stupid crankset yourself"
That is an Ashtabula "one-piece" crank. Those are completely safe to ride, but they are heavy and not as "high-performance" (ie stiff, bearings aren't usually as good, etc.) as good 3 piece cranks. But, they are sturdy and easy to service. I've seen ~40 year old bikes with those operating consistently.
Who cares how heavy someone's bike is, or whether it's for racing or just cruising? It sucks that it got stolen, so if you see it, try to get it back and let this dude know.
Stop being douchebags!

Something tells me we'd hear about it if there were such a massive epidemic of cheapass crankset failure. Generations of not-rich kids grow up on hi-ten junk with soft steel cranks, hilarious welds and tab-and-slot construction. Remember the stink over C-dale shipping bikes without spoke protectors due to the extreme risk of imminent death? If you can't ride what you love, love what you ride. I'll keep an eye out but there are already quite a few gray drafts in the groups so don't tackle the first person you see on one.

since when do we measure dick size by how expensive your fixie was?
at "through the looking glass" i pulled up next to guy on a Bianchi pista and he asked me if we has the same frame, i said no " i have a centurion le mans 12"...... and went on my business. as i pulled away i heard him tell his buddy " my bike is better than his, It's faster and more expensive."
