thursdays route; bring tubes :-/
BRW, 9pm, etc...
reply
Seriously though, bring extra tubes. Last ride PB got no less than 4 flats. Bad luck more than anything else, so don't let that deter you, but still, it's good to be prepared.

Wohoo, it's Thursday and CubCamp is top billin'. Now if you're looking for a solid workout that includes uphills, downhills, and flats, bring your ass to the Bikerowave on Thursday night.
! Extra tubes !

Anybody bringing their fixie on this ride (i.e. PB)? If so, what gearing? ...I've never ridden Mandeville.

the elevation map doesnt look too bad to me, and im on a fixie. what time are you guys expecting to get home?
tortuga_veloce12.10.08 - 11:24 pm

Remember, it doesn't count unless you touch the green Gate at the top. And if you are quiet up there, you can use the home owner's water hose to refill your bottles.

im running 46/15. is it going to be a lot steeper than last week?

This is my first time on Mandeville, so I'm not sure what to expect.
jericho1ne12.11.08 - 4:04 pm

Mandeville is a fairly gentle grade until the last little bit. The ride up Hollyhock to Kenter/Mountain Gate however is a steep dirt fire road.
Black Bart12.11.08 - 6:58 pm
reply
Well, we touched the green gate at the top. The last couple hundred feet were the toughest, no doubt about it. Kudos to those who did the climb fixed, and with flat bars. Ridiculous.
For the second time we ran into this mysterious rider that first joined us on the San Vicente loops ride a few weeks back. He was coming down Mandeville solo, and then he decided to ride back up with us to the top. Coming down, it was freezing cold, those with jackets of some sort may have actually enjoyed it, I'm not sure.
The rest of the ride was a blur. Sunset to UCLA, quick loop, Wilshire/San Vicente to the ocean. This time around, we beat the Sirenes to Bravo Pizzeria.
Next week, Little Tokyo...

I think I ran 2.5 miles at some point last month. Should be fun :P

BICYKILLER01.1.09 - 6:45 pm

Um, we didn't actually do the run part since we rode a lot slower than expected.
BUT, this ride turned out to be a 4-person, 5-hr outing that was FUN.
Since Scoops was closed, we decided to head out to
Beverly Soon Tofu House.
On our way down to K-town, we saw this crash on Vermont:
Got to Beverly Tofu house, but that was closed as well. While we were deciding where to go next a car turns right on the street adjacent to us, and this hubcap rolls off, bounces up on the curb, and rolls to a stop right behind us:
So we went to
Hodori - service was mad sloooow but it was worth it. It was a chilly ride back on Olympic.
We got back to the BikeRoWave at 7pm or so, hence, we didn't make the 4pm Westridge run.
jericho1ne01.2.09 - 3:07 pm
reply
It was lots of fun even if we didn't go very far/fast...how long did we spend sitting in front of Scoops? Like an hour at least!
Jealous that i had to jet before the Korean food! Can we have cubcamp early edition for food more often??? A valley edition to get Persian food? There's a good place near the Encino velodrome.
And since we were thwarted for Beverly Soon Tofu yesterday, I think I might go tonight =P

There's no better way to affirm your vehicle superiority complex than to ride it in at night, in the rain, past timid SoCal drivers scared of the water falling from the sky.

I have a rough idea of a nice fast route w/ a mild steady climb halfway. How does Union Station sound to you guys? Maybe we can get food on Olvera St before we ride back...
This route also involves us going past USC so I can pick up this bike lock I left behind last saturday ;)

Being a die hard east sider I've never bothered to look at what cubcamp even was, I figured it was some kind of cubscout troop or something. Turns out it's a bike ride, who knew?
Anyway, as the future may put me on the west side more often I suppose I should familiarize myself with it. It's not like a beach cruisers and flip flops thing is it?

@supersano,
cubcamp's been slow recently because of the fat put on in the winter months. It's nice to see the pace get up there and have a good group of riders that wanted to hustle a bit.

That's what Leonardo De Caprio said to whats-her-name when he was frozen and they were in the water, and then his frozen self fell off the plank of wood, and then he sank to the bottom of the sea, reaching upwards, frozen, which e-rock once tried to mime during a game of charades.
We did not get that clue. Not that time. However, should he ever do the gesture again, we're on it.

LMU was such a buzzkill. that guy literally chased us down that road off campus. took his job way too seriously. the indignity of being kicked off for trespassing... i'm a full grown man for crying out loud! but other than that my legs thank all of you for an awesome ride.

That was your average brainwashed chubby campus safety officer. I was way in the back of the group, behind his SUV actually, and he was tailing you guys way to closely. What a dick. I guess he's doing his job to keep LMU boring.
Ridiculous pace last night, everyone kept up well, that was impressive. I know my legs hurt today just looking at stairs....
