The winter won't solve anything, the problem is not the weather. The problem is people who do not know how to handle alcohol. People who have a false sense of entitlement and act like fools when they are in a crowd.
Breaking some traffic laws is necessary to keep the group together and possibly for safety. But that should be the extent of it, many think that because we break some traffic laws that everything else is OK. Underage drinking, stealing, trashing our regroup stops, peeing on someone's house or business and other things we do in the name of fun is NOT OK.

I think if you want to control the amount of assholes that show up to a ride you need to plan your ride off the site.Call five trusted rida friends and have them all call five trusted rida friends pick an uncommon meeting point and go have a (hopfully) drama free blast of a night.

i dont think it has anything to do with being ashamed for being on a bike. its true what PC said and others have said as well, some people just cant handle their drinking. i know ive been drunk and high at rides but i dont let it get out of control.

what do you guys think about removing any type of references to drinking or smoking (pot) from the ride descriptions. maybe that will help change the focus of these rides....
Roadblock09.27.08 - 2:00 pm
reply
@roadblock
i dont think removing that from the site will help out. most people when they talk about MR to new people, they always mention how its a party ride and that we drink and smoke. it all depends on whos doing the ride. stoping at parks rather than markets may help out. i mean i know its good to stop at markets cuz it gives riders a change to get water, and using the restroom. but it might help for new people that are just joining us.

THERES ONLY ONE SOLUTION TO THIS ROADBLOCK, SHUT DOWN THIS WEBSITE, GET THE WORD OUT THAT MR DOES NOT CONDONE GETTING TO DRUNK, AND EXCOMMUNICATING RIDAZZ THAT CANT HANDLE THEIR SHIT, WE DID IT TO RATBONES, BERNIE, AND A FEW OTHERS.
ELITE CORE CHUMPS NEED TO STEP UP AND DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES ON EACH RIDE, NO QUESTIONS ASKED, DEAL WITH THEM INDIVIDUALLY, LET YOUR 'NO's BE NO's, AND YOUR YESES BE YESES'
eddieboyinla09.27.08 - 2:14 pm
reply
the solution is simple... start rides that don't incorporate drinking as a foundation to the ride... i mean, i remember when i went on my first bicykillers i had a couple beers but i quickly realized that on that ride it is to my benefit to replace the beer with some good hydrating water/gatorade.
not only that but you can have rides that strictly forbid people from drinking... and i already know what you will all say,"people should be able to do or drink whatever they want."
but if this ride is forbidding it... tough luck. there's plenty of other rides and you don't have to be a part of said/particular ride.

What about Barchopz (for example, a ride founded on drinking)? They have had less problems (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong, 1 stolen bike and 1 place that doesn't let them in anymore) have had less problems than what we're experiencing now. That's pretty cool. We should look up to them, haha.
@Eddie
You're angry. Obviously. But please, don't lash out at people. Especially online. You've been riding with Matt as friends for a while. I probably shouldn't be trying to intervene, but honestly, 2/3 of the ridazz drink too much. If Matt gets himself in trouble, it's always HIS trouble. He deals with the shit he does. What you said to him could go for a bunch of other people on rides.
imachynna09.27.08 - 3:00 pm
reply
correct... i was just at barchopz .. we still have problems but not like the ones you encounter on the bigger rides. i know exactly what i'm getting when i go on barchopz. in fact... another rider ran into me and i had a nasty spill... but guess what? it's a drunken ride, it's advertized as so and everyone is aware of the perils.
smaller rides makes it a more intimate type of thing and people are more conscious of their actions.
Jazzy Phat Nastee09.27.08 - 3:03 pm
reply
all i'm saying is about 2/3 of the rides have moderate to heavy drinking... instead of coming up with another party ride... why not come up with a ride that deviates from the path? someone mentioned a ride where riders would clean up a street or part of the beach... where is it?
Jazzy Phat Nastee09.27.08 - 3:06 pm

Matt,
everyone needs a break once in awhile. I am sort of on one myself. I have feel pretty disconnected from a lot of the ridazz lately and I know it's mostly my fault. However, I made the decision that right now I need to focus on finishing up some work. I should be done in two weeks. Then I'm returning and I am really starting to look forward to doing so.
Take a break if you need to. We are all here to support you and welcome you when you are ready to come back although I am sure all of us would love it if you stayed through all the crap happening right now.

I've got the exact opposite feeling of too much work, not enough riding.
My cellphone's ringing off the fucking hook everyday, mainly with calls from people(work) I don't feel like talking too.
That's kind of why I'm still confused about the economy being in the shitter.
It all depends on what sector of work you're in.
As for me, I'm planning a big ass, barbecue/bon-fire on Dockweiler Beach as soon as I get rehired with Swift.
And don't worry about "potluck", because I'm supplying chicken and beer for all!!!!

Things always get crazy this time of year with the great weather and lots of new young people.
Its not really necessary to plan rides off this site.
Its how you describe a ride, how you frame it, and how you conduct it that encourages or discourages certain behavior.
If you create a party environment and have people hanging outside a liquor store for an hour at a time people will get bored and drink lots more.
The beauty about MR is the more rides the better.
Everybody has a chance to plan or be apart of the type of ride that they like.
If you get 500 people together on a friday night its gonna be more of a party unless you activly create a non-party atmosphere.

what about some thoughts, not rules, presented and accepted by the rider community
i remember reading that when somebody litters don't cruse them out but like 'group boo them' or w/e. it should be the same way
so how about this. some 'thoughs' that all rider should ask themselves.
-how am i behaving?
-is this acceptable?
-is what i do positive?
-will it piss anyone off later if i do?
-is it necessary to do?
please add if you have more 'though'

everyone needs to exhibit personal responsibility.
if everyone can be responsible for themselves, none of this shit would be happening.
rides 100+ people are wayyy too hectic anyways. we can never get any riding done.
ijunes09.27.08 - 8:27 pm
reply
I agree with Junu. It all comes down to personal responsibility. You choose to run a red light in front of the cops, you deal with it. You drunk in public, you deal with it. The last thing we need is a set of rules or regulations for ridazz. That would kill the entire scene quick.
This all reminds me of growing up in the punk rock scene. You'd have meatheads who would go out of their way to fuck with cops, then wonder why they kept getting arrested. You can't call it harassment if you're the one who incited it.
I love anarchy as much as the next person, but let's face it, the only way the LAPD knows how to deal with large groups is tear gas and riot gear. We know what we're up against. I'm not suggesting the cops have any right to over-react the way they do, but we know what's coming. Why do we continue to tempt fate?
The more people get ticketed, fucked with, body slammed, whatever, the more people will stop to think about their own actions.

@RB - I think it would be a great idea for people to not publicize drinking and smoking on ride listings... I mean.. do we really think a ride called "Grateful Ridazz" is NOT gonna include smoking????? why specifically publish it?? This is a website set up to promote rides and the community set up around bikes. Riding and drinking, no matter what we all choose to do, is ILLEGAL. I seriously don't understand why it's ok to actively PROMOTE rides that list BUI's as an integral part of 'the ride'.
redridinghood09.28.08 - 12:23 pm
reply
RBI,
I don't think it takes banishment.
Just asking people to be a little more clever/ discreet about how they promote their rides.
Its inevitable that people are going to party on a friday night.
but do we then need to push that shit up in peoples faces.
-----------------------
It can be argued ... but in general LAPD and many other departments have been pretty chill about the scene. Not perfect by any means ... but relatively chill. According to the CCPD they ticked 3 people at CRANKMAS for pissing and drinking.
considering the size of the group, all the F.U.N. we were having, the noise we were making and how aggressive we have seen cops act over smaller more minor events.
When somebody on a bike ride acts rude and belligerent and entitled toward the cops that erodes the delicate goodwill we have with many of them.
individual cops who cross the line need to be held responsible of course ... but that is different from taking a bikes vs. cops stance.
I've had cops tell me on several occasions that they could be riding with us.
If we keep shit cool ... and are cool with the cops whenever possible we will be able to do this longer.
the minute somebody at parker center says that we are a menace and that the cops should shut us down at every turn ... our scene, as we know it, will be dead.
