free-wheel no brakes

there is nothing wrong with my bike i can stop at a light like the rest of you. never ran into another bike. or anything.
im sorry if it upsets some of you but it is a style of biking.

and what is the point/purpose of this style?
and just because you haven't run anyone down yet doesn't mean it's not significantly less safe. you may be able to stop at a light, but i can stop when a car stops short, cuts me off, or tries to hook me.

he can stop just as anyone. its just stupid though because he is going to either wear through his shoes quickly or through his tire really fast. unlike skidding on a fixed gear which is determined by where your cranks are when you skid on a freewheel it skids on the slickest part of the tire so you just end up skidding through one spot on your tire.

wear cheap shoes when you ride. buy thick tires.

but what is the advantage over not having brakes and not riding fixed?
it just seems like it's a case of being to insecure to ride with brakes or too afraid to ride fixed. If it's just a money issue, most co-ops will help get a brake on the bike.
Overall I dont get it, unless you're riding brakeless bmx street

everybody needs breaks!!!!!!!!! fixies without breaks are bad enough but freewheel is just plain stupid. ive riden freewheel brakeless so i know that your claims of stopping easily are BS. seriously get some breaks!!!!!! also riding without breaks is dangerous to the other riders in the pack its already annoying enough that you have to hit your breaks and mess up your pace when some fixie suddenly goes into a stupid skid right in front of you its even worse when some moron riding free without breaks cant stop with the group and almost takes everybody out. personally i have a front and back brake and if i could put a third brake on my bike i would. Midnight Ridazz is about RESPONSIBLE riding so...... GET SOME BRAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And how most shoes are mass-produced, even more-so.
I just spent $200 on resole-able boots from a outfit in MO.

I really don't give a fuck what kind of bike people ride or how it is outfitted.
If somebody looks unsafe I just steer clear.
I figure if somebody is a chronically unsafe rider they will eventually be in a situation where traffic or road conditions will put them in check.
These are all the reasons that I can think of why a person might want to ride a brakeless bike:
- Its a track bike and the owner rides it to the track where brake are non-regulation.
- Its a fancy track bike with no place for a brake.
- For aesthetic reasons, the bike looks cleaner without a brake
- For status, riding without a brake indicates the rider's mastery over the bike.
- for doing tricks, the brake cable would impede the free spinning of the front wheel
- because the rider considers the brake to be unneeded extra weight
I assume for most people it comes down to aesthetics and status ... but I would love to hear first hand why people ride this way. even if you ride the slightly more socially acceptable "brakeless fixie"
