well not any more, but i remember the days when i woulnt drive unless i was drunk.The unfortunate incident that happenned to Louis,whom i dont know personally but hope he gets through everything ok,made me think about something.I know the majority of people doing these rides are big time partiers.am i wrong in making the assumption that when the party cant be reached or had on a bike,these people get in their cars and are just as irresponsible behind the wheel as they are on their bikes?maybe im wrong but driving sure as hell never used to keep me from getting drunk and endengaring everyone on the streets , including my bike riding friends.
when i see people posting something like "drunk driver was probably responsible for the accident ,blah blah blah..." they seem to be in shock that someone coul be so irresponsible when most of the rides are mostly about irresponsible behavior.i cant help but feel that people are a little hypocritical because of my aforementioned "drunk rider/drunk driver" assumption.
i guess the thing im trying to ask is ,do most people who drink and ride drink and drive ?or was i the only one?
do people who drive to rides and get shit faced sleep it off in their cars before heading home?
could a drunk driver driving home from a ride run over a drunk rider going home from a ride?and whose side would we be on if that happened?
i hope you kids stay safe this holiday season ,and dont run this old man over if youre drunk driving after a ride..

I hear you man. I just ease it up towards the end of the ride. Start early and just sweat it off. I've pulled over and ate at Bobs Big Boy one time just thinking to myself, "What the hell am I doing?" And relaxed on the drinking from there. Just remember if you're going to sleep in your car, hide them car keys really well. Like in a bush or tree and when a cop knocks on your window... say you gave it to a friend. Just don't keep that key anywhere close to you... even in the trunk. Stay safe everyone!

It could also be the same if the driver was tired.
After my embarrassing blow, if I'm driving home from a ride, or anywhere beyond a hundred miles, I pull the fuck over to a WalMart parking lot and catch some shut eye before continuing on.
Hearing about Louis' accident just further reinforces my views that most that do drive tend to take the wheel for granted way to often and then sink into this comfort zone that robs them of most awareness.

fuk drinkn n driving,,,i learned the hardway 9 yrs ago.one of my good friends R.I.P. and his brother were at the house of blues,to make a long story short..he told us..like we all have heard from our friends..."im cool...ive been worse before"..and i couldve sworn he looked allright...it was a shocker to find out..he was speeding ..lost control hit a light poll. end of story...WAK

Almost everybody does who ever drinks and ever drives.
How many people wait 3 hours after having 2 drinks before driving.
Its a tough call because safe and legal are 2 different things.
When ever I am under the influence of anything I think very hard about my condition and I always drive carefully no matter what my condition is.
In mexico city, if you are drunk at night but drive real slow to the right the cops leave you alone. If that was the custom here, i think we'd have a lot less accidents.
Most people who are drunk get in accidents be cause they are driving in a reckless manner. They are driving fast and crazy and they don't give a fuck.
They aren't driving safe to begin with, and act even less safe because they are drunk.
most of the people are pretty agro drivers even when they are sober.

My A3 was totalled by a drunk driver after Cinco De Mayo at 3am. I actually took a cab that night with friends to Main street, and cabbed it back to Culver City. Cost $60 for cabs. I still don't have a car and do not drink and drive/ride. It is not fair to stereo type all riders because of the few that do choose to drink and ride, or drive.
If I have more than a beer, I wait it out or just find a couch to crash on. A $30 cab ride is a hell of a lot safer, and affordable than a DUI or putting others in danger.

Bravo! You bring to the forefront truth and something to think about. I posted about this myself. The way I put it was something like "If a cyclist feels the most freedom when riding a bike and having drinks, wouldn't a motorist feel just as free to drive with a tallboy between their legs?" There are people who ride and drink and people that drink and drive, all the time. Let us not kid ourselves. I know a car and bike are way different but drunk on the streets is drunk on the streets. The Kush Town accident, as unfortunate as it was, happened to cyclist on a ride that promotes riding high and/or drunk, if you wanna. If you can handle. At the FMLY Freedom Ride, I spoke to the lady who got a broken left leg at the KTown ride and she was very angry at drunk drivers. She said drunk driving laws are too lax. I sympathized with her point and I just stood there nodding when I was really thinking: "Drunk? That driver had a BAC of .08, that's what many a cyclist's BAC is just getting to the ride starting point, and actually riding with what has to be a BAC of more than .10 when leaving. Ending the night riding home hammered." I didn't tell her this because she's the one with a broken leg and a very fucked up experience of that night, not me. In my opinion, that lady who mowed down the cyclist was 1) angry or 2) very distracted, not drunk.I don't believe in the whole buzz driving is drunk driving. I ride buzzed sometimes, not drunk. There's a big difference. Also when riding high or after drinking, one must be even more careful not to speed and to follow traffic laws. I used to drive drunk years ago, all the fucking time! Never killed anybody or damaged property. I was 21 and foolish. Don't do that anymore. I used to get drunk and ride after getting rid of my car, and I don't do that anymore. Personal experience showed me that coordination is needed even more while riding a bicycle than you need while driving a car, and I'm glad to have found this out. I applaud you for bringing this up. Some, but not all ridaz drink and ride. Cyclist need to treat the bike as a weapon too. A weapon that can fucking kill you and also put others in danger who ride with you.

A cab is a much safer option, given the cab driver is sober or not wreckless. Stay safe guys. I also plan to mount a go pro camera on
y bike to capture all my commutes, just in case shit
