there's a bunch of (I think they are) LAPD on bicycles at the corner of wilshire/vermont all the time now. I see them pulling over cars left and right...and seeing that makes me think "hell yeah, bicycles showing the cars who is boss."
I must speak with these officers...see how they feel about giving cyclists a rolling stop.....
i miss that crank mob so much. we need to reanimate the zombie of F.U.N what's funny is that by that crank mob (dec 07) everyone on here was already bitching about crank mob being too wild/big/drunk/fun/whatever
i was personally bitching that it was too dangerous. I think richtotheie and at have done a great job trying to make it safer and less problematic; and to remind people what it used to be about. a lot of new people think CRANK MOB is supposed to be a "do-what-i-want-fest," where stealing, tagging and crashing are just part of the adventure.
on my first crank mob i remember pulling into a 7-11 parking lot to find a dance party, and nobody crashed that night. the last time i was on CM two months ago, i stayed in the back to help the noobs and i saw nothing a ton of crashes and psycho drivers hitting cyclists.
that's not my idea of fun. let's face it: it's never going to be like it used to be, but what it is going to be is in the control of the organizers and the riders. we're all be advocates of safety, manners and fun in our own ways and by our own definitions.
CRANK MOB will always have a fond place in my heart because it was one of the first rides that got me to buy my own bicycle. i'm sure a lot of others feel the same way, and I'd like to see it live on for years to come.
i almost forgot to say: seeing the cops having a good time with us was my favorite part, and the thing that excited me the most about Midnight Ridazz. I'd love to see that again.
