OC Ridazz

Attention all OC Ridazz,
Several of us are planning to start our ride at Pioneer Chicken (Echo Park and Sunset) for the Toy Ride at around 9PM to meet with LACC group. A couple purposes of having a seperate start point is to see how many of us are there and to meet other OC Ridazz. There is a big cycling community in OC and it is time to represent. For those who cannot join us at Pioneer, wear or have something orange on your bike or person.
Thanks

Do you think anyone from Orange County wants to be identified as such? It's a shameful thing to be a cyclist from Orange County. I should know, I grew up there and reside there now. If I didn't work here, I would not live in this self-centered yuppie-o-rama. Every day I thank George Carlin's "Man In The Clouds" that I was born an Angeleno. I'll be the one wearing the "Fuck OC" t-shirt.

Good feedback but you apparently don't ride in OC. I am trying to apeal to cyclists in OC and from what I know about cyclists they are the same everywhere. We are all on 2 wheels. We face the same challenges in OC as you do in LA.
Most of the OC cyclists I ride with are very active in cycling community, several of them are key in keeping our MTB trails open to the public. A few are activists fighting to increase the bike awareness. This is precisely why we ride MR to promote cycling, whether it be road, MTB, urban or commuting.
As for being an Angelino, I was born and raised around Echo Park, went to local schools Virgil, Belmont and CSULA. I am as much an Angelino as anyone can claim to be. I been riding the streets of LA since the 60s, long before it was fashionable.

So, where are all of the replies from all of these great community-minded Orange County cyclists? Where is your starting point in Orange County for the All City Toy Ride? What year do you plan on holding a Midnight Ridazz event behind the Orange Curtain? What kind of attendance from Angelenos would you expect to show at such an event? What kind of attendance would you expect from the heart of the yuppiedom (especially on a Friday night)?
Face it, Orange County is filled with narcissistic buttwads, whether you have your own little pocket of sanity, or not. The majority rules in the car infrastructure there and that will not change in our lifetime unless a neutron bomb goes off overhead.

Easy locos... yeah OC has majority buttwads for sure but obviously SCNomad is bringing the love. he needs help. a rare breed of realness from the OC. Mountain Biking is prolly really great down there too. I see stuff off the freeway that looks like it could be explored down in the OC. It's far but even I would prolly get out a OC ride if it was posted.

All good questions Jeronimo, many of which I've pondered myself. Most of the LA rides we currently enjoy started small. Before MR, Critical Mass LA was not that big of a success either, only a few people showed up. But people were not discouraged and just kept on trying. Finally something clicked and everyone is into riding, it does not matter why they do it long as they keep on riding. Even people who just ride once a month are more concious of cyclists when they drive. That I think is what we are all ultimately trying to accomplish.
As for OC Ridazz, it is a pipe dream I know but I gotta keep on trying. There are several small groups all over the county, getting them all together is the challenge.
I lived in San Francisco after college and they said the very same things about an LA bike culture and we are about to prove them wrong.

ease up.........OC isnt that bad, like LA with that many idiots and buttwads running around doing their yuppie thing you can get away with quite a bit. And yes the biking is sweet, for SoCal. I have lived from SD to LA and they all have their fair share of good riding but only LA has the Midnight Ridazz. Last summer I was driving solo from san diego to attend the LA rides. I cant believe how awesome it is to rally the streets of LA with 1000+ friends with a beer in my hand.
Now I am stuck in salt lake city Utah where the biking is amazing whether road or mtn but there is a very limited "scene" and limited nightlife.
I am hoping to start a Utah midnight ridazz this spring around downtown SLC to promote the act of riding a bike and hopefully get a few new friends drunk in the process. (I'm not sure if I should invite the mormons yet, they do ride a ton of miles in their cheap suits all around the world...........)
dont hate, everywhere sucks so make it fun.

Make it fun? But, damn it, that's hard! I'd rather bitch and whine and take shots at people who try to make it fun. And with the Internet, I don't even have to leave the comfort of my home! Hell, I may never ride my bicycle again.

I never leave the comfort of my own home and specialize in bitching on the internet.
There is no real cycling "community" behind the Orange Curtain, only factions who seem to spend more time fighting each other than focusing efforts where the true battles lie. For what? All for the sake of overinflated egos.
I'd rather ride solo 100% of the time than waste my time with people like that. It is they who need to lighten up, my friend.

Taking into account, your apperent self riteousness and negativity, I don't think I would invite you to a potluck--even if you are a great cook.
I hope you are just having a bad week, Jeronimo.
If there are ridazz in OC, ride on!

No problem. I will give you irony, if you want it..but not on this post.
I work down in Orange County, and we should ride together sometime. I work at a contiuation school, so I get out of work fairly early on some days.
We should ride together, and maybe get a beer or something to eat.
I know a great coffee house in Fullerton--maybe you know of another place to meet. Lets shoot the shit and call it done--seriously.

It funny how one opinion hijacked this thread. The original intention is to increase awareness for urban cycling in OC. There were a few successful rides last summer but nothing in the MR magnitude. A regular ride will be posted soon. Thanks for the support.
Roadblock - I'll bring the tape on Friday. Also I need help posting the Rat Race pics.

Maybe this can help:
A ZEN STORY
by Camden Benares, The Count of Five, Headmaster, Camp Meeker Cabal
A serious young man found the conflicts of mid 20th Century America
confusing. He went to many people seeking a way of resolving within himself
the discords that troubled him, but he remained troubled.
One night in a
coffee house, a self-ordained Zen Master said to him, "go to the dilapidated
mansion you will find at this address which I have written down for you. Do
not speak to those who live there; you must remain silent until the moon
rises tomorrow night. Go to the large room on the right of the main
hallway, sit in the lotus position on top of the rubble in the northeast
corner, face the corner, and meditate."
He did just as the Zen Master
instructed. His meditation was frequently interrupted by worries. He
worried whether or not the rest of the plumbing fixtures would fall from the
second floor bathroom to join the pipes and other trash he was sitting on.
He worried how would he know when the moon rose on the next night. He
worried about what the people who walked through the room said about him.
His worrying and meditation were disturbed when, as if in a test of his
faith, ordure fell from the second floor onto him. At that time two people
walked into the room. The first asked the second who the man was sitting
there was. The second replied "Some say he is a holy man. Others say he is
a shithead."
Hearing this, the man was enlightened.

Jeronimo, come down to the ride on Thursday night with us and then tell me there's no community down in OC. Yeah, there's snobs in OC but it's no different than anywhere else, we just need a little help raising awareness. I don't think it's cool for a rida to go out of his way to piss on our attempt to bring MR to OC. If you're gonna make an effort to do something, do it to support fellow ridazz.
