Attorney w Cyclist Experience Recommendations

Ok so I was recently injured in an accident with a vehicle and the insurance company is accepting responsibility. But I'm starting to feel like I'm gonna get screwed. Anyone have any recommendations for a good personal injury attorney that has experience with cyclists?

While you're usually better off with an attorney, bear in mind that the attorney has to get his or her cut as well.

Always, always get legal help.
I learned the hard way. Worked with the driver's insurance company on my own after running up $5,000 in medical bills because the douch driver hit me while making an unsafe turn (police report documentation and 2 witnesses).
The insurance company, Murcury, was all nice and easy until it came time to pay up.
They covered my bills but not a penny more for my lost work time and suffering. I thought I was letting them off easy asking for a grand more than my bills.
They and the douch (did I mention that the driver was a douch?) driver claimed he never actually hit me, after he rubbed off the impact mark my tire made on his car.
Get the meanest bastard lawyer you can find.

Yeah, get a hold of DJ Wheels. Don't let the insurance company screw you...because they will.

Liquidpremium is right--it's hard for attorneys to work for free. But accounts like Creative Thing's suck. That's where an attorney might be able to help out.
Just don't be fooled into thinking insurance companies are on your side and looking out for your interests. Generally not the case. Insurance companies don't make money by paying out claims--they make money by taking premiums and minimizing claim pay outs. Anything and everything you say to them, in police reports, or on Facebook (or even here) may be scrutinized and analyzed as possible means to deny you benefits. It sounds harsh, but it's reality--and good attorneys have experience in how to deal with insurance companies and how to help you get what you're entitled to. Jeez, that sounds like a Larry Parker ad, I know, but I'd hate to see anyone get taken advantage of.

By all means, get an attorney. I'm just saying that there are a lot of crooks in the legal profession.

btw. I want to clarify my comments. I do think you should consult an attorney. I just think you should comparison shop before you choose one.

You won't be able to comparison shop on rates. It's pretty much settled that lawyers get a third. Medical gets a third and you get a third.... But you can comparison on how much care and knowledge a lawyer has. A lawyer who cares about cycling issues is just better to work with and can increase the payout. A lot of lawyers don't care about cycling issues because they don't see a lot of money in the cases.

Of course not rates. I just mean choose a good quality lawyer. Sometimes lawyers will just huff & puff & bluff (tell you what you want to hear) to sign a client, but they aren't always the ones who will do the best work. Go with your gut.
