Hearing loss

A couple of years ago I got my hearing testing and found that I have low frequency hearing loss in my left ear, which I attribute to driving around in my car with the window down and the music blasting as a teenager.
I recently found myself considering all the sounds I am exposed to on my bike and wondering if in the long run that may lead to further hearing loss.
What's been your experience with this, if any?

It's the I-pods.

I blame the 350 days of 25+ mph winds in the desert.
After riding in this bullshit for the past ten years, I really do feel as though the deafening howl is taking it's toll on my eardrums, as well as all other parts of my body.
And the earbuds just add fuel to the fire.

The sirens on emergency vehicles are designed to be loud enough to catch the attention of a driver in a car with windows up and music on. I cover both ears when those things pass by. Totally not cool.
Our ears self-protect when we're exposed to a constant barrage of loud noises (some swelling or something within our ears); it's the sharp, loud and sudden noises that are most likely to cause permanent harm.

Are you sure that it's LOW frequency hearing loss that you have? High frequency loss is much more common and is partially a result of aging, but is exacerbated by repeated or prolonged exposure to noise.

I am pretty sure that's what they told me, but perhaps I am remembering incorrectly. I'd actually gotten my hearing tested to diagnose a virus in my inner ear that I'd contracted and I was pretty sickly.
Either way, there is some hearing loss in my left ear and I'm pretty sure it was from being a dumb teenager (I didn't own an iPod until I was in college), which is why I wonder about all the noises I am exposed to on a bike.

Are you sure you don't have some wax build up in there? go get a professional ear cleaning, you may be surprised.

I've actually heard that those deep ear cleanings are sort of amazing.
I would want to play with the crusty ball of wax, because I'm a sick little kid ; p
