MR Political Discussion Group

as great as it is to have AT and Stephen Box to rely upon for our political info, I think the recent incidents may necessitate better coordination and sharing of pertinent and accurate information.
Nothing moves politicians more than a united group of people asking for the same things. Based on what I heard at Storm the Bastille, it seems like everyone's already thinking of the same issues and solutions (better officer education and accountability, being treated better, protection...)
What I think would help us the most is to share information and discuss strategy on a local level.
I'd like to propose a network of local cadres, whose geographical locations are determined by the local councilmember seat. Cadre members will:
1) share information about problems with our local police (poor response, lack of sensitivity, abuse...) and other issues involving our part of the city.
2) document and make publicly available any police misconduct (citations in error, civil rights abuses, collective punishment, dangerous police behavior) and help people to start taking names and shooting video.
3) discuss strategy and coordinate a united message, also letter-writing workshops.
4) ensure that our presence is consistently felt at
city and
neighborhood council meetings when necessary. and to show force when outrage demands it.
there has never been a more urgent time for cyclists, nor a more vulnerable time for the LAPD. the police has the benefit of a huge organization to allow them to cover up and lie. we need to respond with an equal amount of organization to expose the truth and seek justice!

Is this cadre going to get the police's take on things, and come up with a pro-active set of strategies for moving forward productively as well?
We need to focus on the win-win here.

of course. we're not looking to point fingers and embarrass anyone, this is about solutions. it's great if we all have the same concerns and independently share them with our elected officials, but we're going to get where we need to be a lot faster if we all share the same information and unite around a common solution.
especially when the police are trying to bury witnesses and hide misconduct, it's critical for us to find the truth ourselves. we have to be strong, united and most importantly smart.
