I already received my first summer burn. It wasn't sunny(how deceptive) so I rode around without a shirt and a few days later my whole back began to blister and peel.

I cannot stress enough how important this product is to me. It's sort of my 1 and only beauty secret (but it's not a secret!) It's kind of expensive, but a little goes a long way. Wear it every day under make-up, and prepare to get carded for a very very long time.

I'm not sure whether or not they live up to hippie standards... but my guess is not. I was trying to use those all natural moisturizers with sunscreen like Alba, Avalon Organics, er... and a couple other brands who's name escape me*. But I started noticing wrinkles & dryness on my face. I try to be a good consumer, but those products weren't cutting it. This is the best stuff I've used (mommy & dermatologist recommended).
You can look at their website for details about what's used in them. I know that they use thermal spring water in their products, and they cater to specific dermatological needs like sensitive skin.
*I still have some bottles of these all natural face products in my cupboard that I don't use anymore if there is somebody who wants them.

Even at my age, I'm looking for a sunblock that won't give me zits.

You should try this Mr.Rollers. La Roche Posay products are only at some CVSs though, so you might want to look it up before trying to find it. They also have a line of stronger UV products for body... but Hydraphase UV is definitely face friendly and won't give you zits.
...and I don't work for this company. I swear.

just for shits..look up the active ingredients in pretty much all sunscreens (there's 4 or 5 common ones)
They're pretty much all carcinogenic (ie. cause free-radicals)
I'm not saying don't use it..but use in moderation...

at least we get cancer by avoiding burns rather than cancer caused by the burns =P

Be sure to rub yo' selves down thoroughly, reach every cranny and nook the ionizing radiation may try to [penetrate.
The last thing we need are freckles where none are needed.
