Something needs to be done about reckless cyclist/ ridazz

It's a shame that the more experienced cyclist (ridazz) aren't stepping up and checking these kids who ride like dicks. I make it a point to speak out on rides every chance I get, telling these kids to stop skidding for no goddamn reason and to hold their lines. I recall on a recent MOM Ridazz Tuesday that I said something to someone who was skidding around and almost took out three people, at a stop he apologized and there were no further issues. You can't be afraid to tell someone they're riding stupidly, it's for their safety and everyone else.
These are the kind of messages I get from friends who don't ride yet support what I do.
"ey but on the real though, I was gonna talk to you about this if/when we chilled, but some bicyclists ride pretty recklessly, swerving into lanes, taking red lights and shit like that. I'm down for sharing the road and all that, and I always slow and stop for riders, but I've even had to swerve when some foos pop outta nowhere, and I drive like an old lady! and you know how I feel about public transportation, so I'm down for riders. I've only recently sold out to cars since having my kids. but righteousness, albeit correct, wont save you from a half-ton machine, even by accident."
Take action and help educate these cyclist (ridazz) that don't know any better. I remember people teaching me the ropes and calling me out when I was fucking up... I don't understand why no one does that anymore. At the end of the day, if you ride like a dick you're gonna eventually get fucked up. I'd hate for that to happen but hopefully you'll learn your lesson.

100% agreed . Get some brakes and some Damn lights. If anyone wants to get involved with the " CAN YOU SEE ME NOW" ride plz get in contact with me, we could definitely use some help promoting safety and staying visible.

+1 on all of the above, and there isn't a cyclist on this site that isn't a 30-minute pedal from a 99c only store. $3 gets you front light, back light and the batteries to power them. Not a Nightrider system, but it's a start. Just sayin'...

Dude.... we have bad cyclist the same way the world has bad drivers. I get questions like this every single day at work on the topic. The whip skidding is to look cool and isnt really needed.. they know it ...but fuck it ..they look cool. If you get a pack of kids forget it... you can yell until you turn blue in the face and they could care less. Some people just flat out dont care and make that choice to not follow the rules. I cant speak for anyone elese but COMMON SENSE comes into play at some point. If its someone who really just doesnt know I will help them out. If its someone who clearly knows how to ride but is being obvious they dont want to follow the rules... fuck it .... Im not going to waste time.

Nicely said John, but really this thread is a reminder of many other threads with the same narrative.
You can lead by example, but there will always be douchebags there to fuck it up.

I agree there is way too much skidding without looking...there is nothing wrong with a lil skidding whippin it..or long manji... You just have to be aware of your surroundings and considerate of others. I think the main thing that we could teach these peeps..is not how NOT to do something, but rather how to be AWARE (360/ninja awarness) and just treat them with kindness and consideration and they'll do the same in return... No one wants to crash anyone..especially not a friend.

I have found that the slightest hop-skid coupled with a wahtsup head nod and a smile is an effective way of saying, "I find you attractive and would like to be naked with you."
It is much more effective than "Show me your tits." - which I find really annoying.

We all just got to make sure that we help those that want to be helped and the ones that can careless will fuck themselves up. The key is totally leading by example. I have lights and a front break.. Sure I can stop if I were riding brakeless but I personally feel having a break is just a safer/more cost effective way of stopping. I don't got money to be buying new tires all the time.

whether you're older or just more mature, the younger, less experienced kids will listen, and they do respect what you have to say, whether they admit it or not. whether they accept what you say, or tell you to fuck off--they are listening, and they will hear you.
so preach on. be a role model.
if you don't, the shitty kids will grow up to be shitty adults. and who wants that?

that's the rub -
There will always be new young and douchy riders joining all the time. There's nothing you can do about it but set an example. It's a lot of effort to keep at it though. That's why so many people break off and do smaller rides, because they want to avoid having to deal with the new pricks who don't have any respect for you or bike riding as a whole.
The London riots were a reflection of how a bunch of kids have no respect for their cities and authorities, and rightfully so. They have been taught nothing but disrespect and been forced to think that they are nothing and worthless.
We are not so far from them in LA... We can relate it well to our recent past history. There are those that want to cause trouble and disrespect their communities because that's all they've learnt from it.
If we can't continue to try to lead by example, then everything is just going to go to shit no matter what. I'm trying not to be pessimistic here, but you get back what you put out there. We have not been putting out that much good, have we?

I think we should be backing up our ride leaders as well. I try to do my part on some rides. John does a GREAT job with MNR,, Always been one of my favorite rides since day one, that's cause John has a no bullshit mentality. He says it straight, plus he has a good support system with people like Gio and Albert and several others. I think we all got to step our game up if we want to make things better. I'm glad I'm not alone in this.

if only there was a some sort of community task force that could go around making sure everyone road their bikes safely and obeyed all traffic laws. they could have uniforms and bright lights that flash to alert us to their presence, and if you fuck up, they could zip tie your wrists together and take your money and beer as a warning to behave...
as much as having some asshole hipster hopping in front of you while riding a tall bike down some dark street is annoying- its only slightly more annoying than someone yelling out orders every 5 minutes. I don't like to be told what to do, and inversely, I don't like to tell anyone else to do the same. Maybe theyre bike got stolen and they don't have enough money for a new light, or they didn't have enough time to install brakes on the bike they're building. I've riden fixed/brakeless in NY/NJ/LA and learned the hard way that its an irresponsible way to get around. 'the kids' will figure it out, the last thing they want is another lecture.

I totally support leading by example, but I also feel that sometimes you just gotta tell people what's what. I don't suggest doing it by lecturing, but rather rider to rider, get some lights and chill with riding all over the effin' place, all the lanes, etc. in and out of the group swerving.
If I ask someone to take it down a notch it's not because I don't like them, but because I don't like getting harassed by cops or having motorists get all aggro at me. The masses see all cyclists as the same so when you act like a dick or you let your friends act like dicks you're fucking it up for everyone else.

I don't disagree completely though. Sometime you do have to speak out or the kids will keep getting out of hand and will piss all over your parade.

Damn thanks for the plug....LOL. But you are right i couldn't do it with out the other people because I cant see everything all at once. Before we changed spots everything was going downhill and the small ride that peopled liked was turning into a shit show. Also i think for some strange reason people think they need an invite to come out ... NOT THE CASE ....so they stay on point so they can come out again.

from what i've seen in the past, ridazz just ignore when these young ghetto kids misbehave, and then tell their friends about how bad the rides are getting.
ridazz need to stop being so passive aggressive
its important to yell at kids when they fuck up. if you treat them like they're invisible, they'll work even harder to get your attention.
