Freedom Ride

I went on the Freedom ride this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. For those unaware of this ride it is the ride that is targeted at black folks in LA. Some people want to hate right away and feel like this is some type of exclusive event. Well its just the opposite. As a matter of fact we had a white couple join us from the giddy up and stayed for the duration of the 15 mile ride. It was awesome! They had a great time and never felt like they were NOT apart of our group!
What the Freedom Ride does do in my opinion is provide a welcoming environment for other african american riders and the like to come out and ease there way into the whole bike community as a whole. It can be a bit intimidating not to have someone whom you feel comfortable asking "what does hold my line mean?" Although Midnight Ridazz are usually helpful in these situations, some of us need a greater level of comfort to ask what we think are embarrassing questions.
Unfortunately we as black folks usually watch these activities and assume its for other people and We don't do that. Well part of my life mission as CoolassMike is to partake in as many activities where WE dont usually participate. Then turn around and help someone else ejnoy what I just did and hopefull enjoy the next experience together!
So I say this to all readers. Encourage the existing black riders to come out to the Freedom ride as well as those around you whop have been considering out, The more PEOPLE we have out there the better. And the more diverse the better.
We need to see some other ethnic and interest based ride so we can come together and have a big cultural salad day ride! It will blow away all the HATERS!
It was great seeing some regular riders come out, but we want more. I know of at least 10 other black riders that need to show up next month with a guest! ROLL OUT!

It was a great ride to Michael Jackson's Sunset home. Then we ran into the Iranian parade and joined them for a minute. Then headed back! Nice route, good people, awesome weather. What more can one ask for!
Video coming soon...
