Dark Century: Orange County or Los Angeles?

It's that time of the year again...100 miles at night and under the stars.
The date is set: Saturday, July 24th
We want to hear from you. should we ride Los Angeles or Orange County.
Los Angeles: Meet at Union Station and End at a 24 hour sit down restaurant
or
Orange County: Meet at the Long Beach Transit Mall (Blue line Station) and end at a 24 hour sit down restaurant.
Will it be an "Orange County Dark Century" or a "Los Angeles Dark Century"
The county with the highest demand by Saturday 6/26/10 wins.
Training rides Start on July 3rd...Peace!!!

are we voting on just the start/end location, or on the route? because you can start/end wherever and still do similar routes. you can start in LA and still ride to the OC and back, or you can start in LB and ride through LA. or were you thinking of a route that goes thru mostly OC?

and just to add, I'd rather start/end in LB because that's where i live now, but riding in the OC at night isn't much fun. OC seems better for morning/daytime roadie rides.

Every Dark Century thus far has started with an Urban excursion through the streets of L.A. but in a manner that keeps everyone safe. I'm going to address your question a little better in a few. Just wanted to hit you personally.

I feel you, believe me I feel you. However we've decided to let the ridazz decide. I think it's more of a "where people live" issue, than a we don't wanna do OC issue.

Traditionally the ride has always started at Union Station in L.A. circling the rim and touching a bit of the OC via the SGV bike trail to long beach.
The OC ride would start in Long Beach and circle 100 miles away from L.A. It would be different in that we've never explored this territory at night, while rolling with 20 plus bikers with flashing red lights and a plethora of headlights.
That said, this is a people ride and I understand the apprehension....LBC is far, unless you live there and vice versa for those who live in the LBC. If the OC ride doesn't happen this time around, we'll work hard on making it happen in the future.
and the voting window doesn't close till Midnight this Saturday so there's still time..

I would think most ridazz are in L.A. having to get to long beach and back is not something I want to do.My vote is for Los Angeles

What will the pace be like? I have never done more than 50mi before and I have a feeling I would probably get dropped, so I won't vote until I know more about the kind of ride it will be. Hate to get stranded in ELA somewhere and not know where I am...

The pace will be moderate, about 15 to 18 mph for the most part.
On some sections pace lines can form and hammer, but we have scheduled rest stops to regroup, and we keep tabs on all riders so as not to drop anyone in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.
The whole thing takes about 10 hours, 6.5 of that is riding time.
Average speed is 15 to 16 mph.

Awesome! I am attending a grad class that runs over the date. Sorry. Can't go. I am excited to hear that the DC is going to happen! The first DC started in LB. Is that LA or Orange? Anyways, Have Fun!!!! I WILL miss it. Pictures (and video, if possible), Please!!
