CicLAvia Volunteer Opportunities


CicLAvia consists of the temporary opening of LA streets to pedestrians and bicyclists so that they may enjoy a safe and pleasant recreation space. The CicLAvia organization is currently preparing for a pilot program to take place on Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 10 am to 3 pm in Los Angeles. CicLAvia will be a recurring free
program that features interconnected routes throughout the region, creating a web of temporary public space where Los Angeles residents will be encouraged to make active use of their streets. Approximately 7.5 miles of city streets (see route map on page 2) will be opened to families, pedestrians, cyclists, joggers, skateboarders,
and anyone else interested in safely recreating in the public realm.

The CicLAvia organization is currently seeking volunteers to help implement the pilot program on October 10th. The organization needs assistance with an exciting range of tasks from now until the event date. Such volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to:

• Assist in the distribution of doorhangers to residencies and businesses/organizations along the 7.5 mile route, beginning in August.

• Contribute to our grassroots marketing campaign by blasting out CicLAvia materials via email, social media, in addition to distributing postcards and flyers to your local cafes, restaurants, etc.

• Aid in the execution of the pilot program on Sunday, October 10th:
o Assist in the setup of the event
o Help distribute event signage, barricades, tables, chairs, and marketing materials along the route
o Act as an event “concierge” – providing information to participants, leading the public to the CicLAvia pit stops/water stations, directing participant to restrooms
o Assist in the breakdown of the event: tear down of event signage, barricades, tables, chairs, pit stops and water stations, and general street clean-up

and next wednesday 9am, Mayor Villaraigosa hosts a press conference in support of CicLAvia - 9am L.A. City Hall South Lawn! Come on down - we need lots of bikes/bicyclists!
