I went car-free about a month ago. I'm so happy about it!
Who else has gotten rid of their cars this year?
reply
My license to drive a motor vehicle was suspended on my birthday for failure to display a front license plate. So I'll be car-free for a while I guess.

With sick relatives and others that ca't be convinced to get their own car or ride a bike, I've only been 50% car-free since '06.
I've still got my CDL for whenever the trucking world lets me back into its good graces, but I still ride more than most people I know up here.

I'll be honest and open to say that it was hearing all those horror stories about peakoil that got me to start riding a bike as fulltime, local transport.
As far as why I got a license to begin with, that fear became subsided after I delved into the world of trucking and got all my training at company expense.
Motorized vehicles are useful as long as you're using it as a tool to get work done with.
As for the attention whores that love loud exhausts and flashy graphics, then money and resources are truly being wasted.
