I don't know much about Riverside, but I can tell you that JOEY from the IE will fucking shred you at Polo. He has a bi-weekly game out there and throws rides, and does C-MASS out there. Lot of territory and a lot of dirt to ride too. Fixies are there for sure. They're everywhere.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! LMFAO!! extreme energy drinks!!! AHAHHAHAHHAHAAA omg I'm crying. you pretty much hit the nail on the head. you forgot SRH/ kottonmouth kings, and sagging dickies, tattoos and flat-billed hats cocked to the side. God they all think they are so cool its hilarious.
Anyways, Yeah there's riders out there, you just gotta look CLOSE.
p.s. Here's a good shop to go to...ANTHONY'S CYCLERY. Near UCR 5225 Canyon Crest Dr. Great fucking guy, really knows his shit. Is willing to order whatever you want right away, unlike most shops that just try to sell you what they have instead. Expect him to turn you away if you bring a brakeless bike in there, however. (unless you are getting a brake installed)
The fixed gear craze has just barely seeped into the IE, so I expect next time I go home I'll see a lot more of them, ESP around the UC.
But hey, next time I go out there, I'll ride with ya.

I've also heard of a group called the Cycledelics. Funny I never hear of a Riverside bike group till I move to LA...anyways you might want to check them out. I know I'm going to next time I go out there

@ la duderina & apineda
i work at UCR and bring bikes out there everyweek to ride. i met up with some guy from the cycledelics commenting on my bike. he said they have a fast ride on tues and a beer-swillin chill ride on thurs. both meet up at 8:30 at the getaway--the student pub on canyon crest just east of the uni. there is also a ton of dirt to ride if you are into mtb.
and unfortunately the bro characterization is correct. lifted trucks and skin industries/lame tats and limited vocabularies. some of them were my students. y'all let me know if you ever want to ride out there and i can show you some decent routes.

Like "East LA vs. West LA", I smell another round of "What's Central IE?"
As much as La Duderina and Apineda defend this little enclave, I'm going to stick with my wits and say that the Foothill areas like Rancho, Upland, Rialto, and Ontario, along with San Bernardino, are the key cities to the IE.
That and my personal opinion of if all major, IE ridazz rides were to be done in Riverside, that's sort of like a convergence to a corner, as opposed to a meetup in a center spot.
Anywho, since I'm not going to stop you from moving there, let's hope your experience is pleasurable, and also that the
"Bro's" all had their toys repossessed, due to their housing construction jobs falling flat!!!!

Yes, yes, and yes.
The Cycledelics, as la duderina pointed out, meet on the first Friday of each month (as seen on here sometimes): 9:00 PM at Back to the Grind in downtown Riverside.
Also, the slightly faster UCR rides, as dadavida pointed out, meet at 8:30 PM at Getaway Cafe in UCR: the Social UCR ride on Thursdays, and the Fast UCR ride on Tuesdays.
Go to http://www.thebicyclelounge.com/ and check the calendar.
I'm down to join y'all on some rides.

its not the cycledelics riding on Tuesday and Thursday. its the FUCR's and SUCR's.
Tuesday = Fast UCR Ride => about 20 mile ride @ 15 mph or more
Thursday = Slow UCR Ride => drinking and such

shit thanks for the all the info! I was a little worried there for a while... Does anyone know if you can bring bikes on board the metrolink?
apineda11.14.08 - 10:55 am
reply
yes you can!! I just found that out myself. There's 2 spots per car...there's a special place you have to put them...there's straps and stuff. But you can definitely take them on there

holy shit this is the best news ever! do a lot of people take up the bike spaces?
apineda11.14.08 - 11:26 am
reply
um, not that I've seen. Probably depends on what time you go. But in all the times I've taken the train from here to Riverside and back I've only seen one person take a bike on board.
You should come to the lunch ride that is happening in an hour

Okay, we'll since y'all keep pissin' and a moanin' about how cool Riverside has gotten, I'll go down there one of these to live up all the hype, or get my ass whooped.
One of the two.

Just another reason I seemingly divert away from it when coming to LA, or the Westside, from Victorville.
But some people would say, "Victorville clowning on Riverside is about as effective as a slow, fat guy clowning on a paraplegic in a wheel-chair."
I'm probably not accomplishing much!!!!

I'm proud to call myself a Westsida despite not living anywhere near the LA Basin.
I mean, aside from constant, blowing dust-storms, the desert has nothing to appreciate, except quiet.

there's way worse places you can be, and if you look hard enough it doesn't suck at all.
anyways, I just saw your ride posting for the RCM and wondered how's it going out there? lots of people or what
