Driving/Cycling up North towards Ohai

Hey yall... I'm taking a friday evening drive up North with my girl and was planning to on sleeping/camping whatever... somewhere on the PCH maybe by Santa Barbara/Ohai/Malibu? But have never done this before..

Can anyone recommend anywhere to stop by or does anyone have a parking spot I can park my VW Van in? Just gotta stay for one night, Friday somewhere safe or allowable by law! I'm even taking my tent and sleeping bags so a camping spot would work too!

Any suggests=Appreciated!

 san pedro street in ventura should have some street parking for you. its right next to the beach.

a few blocks away from an in'n'out, too.
