Dash badly injured on Hyperion

Goddammit.
Dash, a good friend of my buddy Patrick V., was hit by a car around dusk Wednesday evening as he was riding on Hyperion. The driver struck him from behind and was most likely speeding.
Dash smashed into the windshield, then got thrown 50-100 feet through the air. He's in County/USC Hospital with many broken bones (clavicle, three vertebrae, ribs, tibia and/or fibula and possibly others), awaiting surgery and further diagnosis. He was wearing a helmet, which saved his brains and probably his life. He's uninsured and dreading the hassle of dealing with the driver's insurance company. But mostly, he's in a lot of pain and just wants to go home.
I don't know if anyone here knows Dash, since he isn't part of the Ridazz culture, but even so, please send him some good vibes, would you? He surely needs them now. At the very least, take this as another reminder to stay safe out there. Please. There have been too many horrifying accidents already. No more.

That's so horrible to hear! I tried warning people about
HYPERION last month. Afraid something bad like this would happen. I hope he gets well soon and heals up okay. No one deserves that.

did the driver run?

If you can, tell him to hang in there and get ALL the treatment he needs. This is the sort of thing that the driver's insurance exists for, so tell him not to check out early, and to make sure he gets all the physical therapy and whatnot to get back up to speed.

The driver stayed, fortunately. If he (or she) had fled, then the whole situation would be even more fucked. The fact that there were a lot of witnesses around probably didn't hurt, either.
Thanks for the well-wishes and advice, everybody.

Dusk is the most dangerous time of day to cycle with cars.
Visibility is not optimal and people are tired from working all day.
Was Dash cycling on the far right or had he taken the lane?
Did this happen at an intersection or mid-block?
It is VITAL that Dash get legal help with this.
I learned the hard way, being a good guy and dealing with an insurance company assuming they will be fair is a big mistake!
They are not interested in the truth. They will screw you over to avoid paying even $1,000 for pain and suffering.
They are bastards and not to be trusted!!!

Make sure he immediately calls a lawyer and gets represented. He does not need to be dealing with the drivers insurance direct. Good vibes going to Dash. What kind of car was it? Good vibes man good vibes.

What a nightmare! I'm so glad the driver stopped, and I'm so glad he had a helmet on... and I hope that this inspires others to weir theirs. You could be a super cautious cyclist and still get snuck up on like this.
The streets are completely out of control. Everybody be safe out there!
Conjuring up all of my best vibes for Dash!

My understanding is that he had taken the lane and was getting ready to make a turn. It happened in the middle of the block, roughly
here. The streets are out of control, but that section of Hyperion is especially so.
The car was a new BMW.
I'll make sure that all advice re: lawyers and insurance gets passed on. Thanks, everybody.

I always worry about biking into the sun during dusk, as you say cars have a hard time seeing and shit, and if they're speeding and careless.. I wish your friend a speedy recovery, and seconding the suggestion that he stay as long as he needs to recover. :(
