This is what I got in the Email they sent me
"The Rosarito Ensenada 50 Mile Fun Bicycle Ride has enjoyed a history spanning almost 30 years and has been an icon among cycling events around the world.
But the decrease in Baja tourism has reduced attendance to about 5,000 riders: our financial break-even point.
We have decided that this next ride on September 27, 2008, will be our last and we would like to invite you to take this final opportunity to enjoy Baja California on this historic ride!"
I'm really sad about that... I've been doing the ride since last year and its lotsa fun

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THEY'VE CLAIMED THAT THIS WILL BE "THE LAST RIDE"....
they did the same thing a few years ago...and had another ride in a few months...claiming someone else bought the rights to it and was going to make it better...
seemed like the same ride to me...

Hope to get a good group of ridazz down there for this.

In my opinion, Esenada is a better place to party.
Anyone done it before? Best times?

If you haven't done this ride yet YOU SHOULD GO!
It may be the last one ever. Sucks.
Get a list organized so you all can ride together!

It is a 52 mile fun ride. It travels south along the coast from Rosarito to Ensenada. Yes, at 1/3 of the way there begins a ascent up the old road which climbs up to 1000 ft elevation. It can be strenuous for some, but Ive seen 11 year old kids buzzing past me on their cruisers.
For those of you who like to "wolfpack it". I recommend you get in the elite placement, (I think an extra 30 dollars?) and then you will be able to not wait at the line of the start as people are funneling through. However, if you want to treat it like a kick back ride then bring a bag of candy so you can toss it to the kids, wear a fun costume if you wish, and pace yourself all the way to Ensenada for the after party. Just remember all of those hills will be worth it.... Hott Chicas, Cerveza, and Fish Tacos!
I won't be able to go, but I wish you all a great ride. Carpool and find a cheap place in Rosarito, (you'll have to dig around). 20 dollar shuttle ticket takes you and your bike back to Rosarito from the finish line and party stop in Ensenada.
To Sum it up: It's somewhat strenuous for people who don't ride too much, but it's a great challenge, and they have good support, port-a-potties and water stops. Register now and do will call rather than stand in line in the morning to get tickets at the start. (I highly recommend that)

Hey Rikk,
We are going to be staying in Ensenada. Not sure where... We plan on going down and finding the dirtiest, cheapest place out there... Even if we have to stay on the beach. We are leaving Friday night.

Well on Saturday morning, thinking of catching the bus or amtrak to san diego or near the border. Catch a cab in TJ 2 rosarito and due the ride. I'm staying somewhere in La Bufadora. Coming back Sunday. Anyone more than welcome to join us.

If we haven't got a hotel res. but want to do this ride, will we a) be able to find a hotel the day of, post-ride? b) what the likelihood that we will do the ride and have the ability to drive back to LA? We were thinking about driving down at the crack of dawn tomorrow to make it to registration....

Well my buddies and I are leaving tonight to Ensenada. We are taking a cab up to Rosarito. I am not familiar with with that area so I am not aware of any good landmarks to recommend meeting at.
Joe, have any recommendations?
Rogue Rida09.26.08 - 10:35 am

We are going tonight with no reservations. My buddy who is a vet on this ride says finding a place is simple, there are hotels all over the place. Don"t look online because they charge extra even though they are just as shitty.
I will also be wearing a Midnight Ridazz patch. Keep a look out for it.

1. If you don't mind staying at some "flea bag" place last minute for cheap, as some locals around rosarito and they can probably help you. otherwise last minute search for a normal hotel room will be pricey.
2. I suggest people meet at the actual starting line. (GIANT INFLATABLE STARTING GATE) If it's too crowded around there to get into the line you can. Still walk up and down the right side and look for you gaise.
Somebody volunteer to get up early and get in the front of the line and Hold a Pirate Flag or a sign that says Midnight Ridazz so that other Ridazz can find each other. Cell phones don't work there. So make a sign and commit to getting folks together. If you are in the elite line, don't worry about it, you aren't there to mosey with a group. Good Luck , Have fun ! (The non elite line starts really slow, and beware of weavers and dumbasses who might suddenly stop for the first 10 minutes) after that it's good times.
Get a picture with some Power Aid Girlz for us! : )
Don't forget a bag of candy to peg the little kids with!
Si Se Puede! Ride On!

OMG, I'm so glad that we decided to do this at the last minute! Unfortunately mellowyelow and I didn't get a picture with the Powerade girls, but we did get to run into one other rida (Mike we didn't see you at the party afterwards!)
The beginning of the ride was totally misty and it was like riding through a big, fluffy, white cotton candy bicycle dream! When the mist started to clear, we had the joy of seeing this:

Nancine, good to ride with you a while. It was a fun ride, ran into a few other Ridazz there too. We kept looking for you two but never found you.
I hope they do this again. I read where the promoter said this was going to be the last ride because of the decline in tourism. Here's what I found:
"Since announcing “the last ride ever,” Foster said he has generated many queries, but believes the numbers of participants will remain too low to continue. Still, “if we get 7,000, then we'll restart the conversation.”"
I saw some registration numbers around 6,500 so here's hoping that was enough to do it again.

Grr... it took longer to get out of Tijuana than it did to finish the ride. Stupid border.
The Director of Tourism (or something) said before the ride started that it wouldn't be the last one. He sounded pretty serious so hopefully it wont be.
It was pretty cool riding through the fog.

It took us over an hour in the car to get across the border. After all that riding, I sure hated breathing all those exhaust fumes waiting at the border.
If they ever do it again, I might try the shuttle bus from Balboa Park. It costs $87 though.
Good ride, weather was just about perfect for that kind of ride.
