I was driving my truck today east on Broadway in boyle heights on my way to my homie's birthday party when I encountered a white GMC van showing all of the classic symptoms of DUI. The driver was swerving and driving erratically, then nearly ran a light on a major intersection. Not wanting to have any of that, I went around them and accelerated a couple hundred yards ahead a stopped at a light on Mission Rd.. Then I started messing with my radio when the asshole rear-ends me! My truck is a 1995 Chevy K1500 with 265k (her name is Betsy) and he hit me hard enough for me to at least have to pull over to find out if any damage is done. The guy got out, stoned as he could be and staggered over to me, apologizing profusely. I don't know what the fuck he was on but he was super fucked up. He also told me was was looking for Alameda (which was way in the opposite direction). He got back in his van and I went back to my truck to call the cops and reported him. After a while, he must've realized what I was doing and busted a U turn. I guess I should've got more info or stalled him until the cops came, but it was just such a weird situation I didn't know what to do. I just remembered those signs on the freeway that say to call 911 to report drunk drivers. This really made me think because I was supposed to be on my bike. I just decided to drive at the last minute because I needed to take some camera equipment with me. That extra 7000 pounds of metal really saved my ass. Please be safe out there!
