Houston Riders?

I've got to to come to a decision by tomorrow night: Stay in Los Angeles and keep looking for a job in this hard economy or Move to Houston, TX and go run my father's apt. bldg.
I'm aware Austin has a booming bike scene but Houston is about 165 miles away from it. Does anyone know of any social rides in the Houston area?

The most promising site I've seen is
Third Coast Fixed, which does have a 'Houston' tab. It looks like the bike thing is really starting up in the Lone Star State. I'm checking out one of the few Dallas rides this Monday.

I got stranded in houston with my bike this summer for a day. Its long, humid, and flat. Drivers act like theyve never seen bikes before, and practically every vehicle that passed me while i was out had something to saytoss at me. Maybe I got a bad night.

no way in hell you can bike Houston. I lived there for 18 years.
a) (literally) zero bike lanes.
b) sweltering summers
c) rains 54 inches a year (compared to 15 in LA)
d) lower population density than LA means everything is farther apart
e) drivers thirst for your blood and they drive comically large cars.
