 I did this one a few times, but didn't ride the whole way.

Jumped on the bus that goes down Western and took it to the last stop. the rode the bike the rest of the way.

There should also be an express bus on Western to make it a bit faster.

 yeah, I want some options. I'll be going down there once or twice a week, usually leaving in the afternoon, coming back at night. Sometimes I'll have the chance to ride the whole way, sometimes transit both ways, sometimes combo.

Departure point is Sunset and SIlverlake, destination is Crenshaw & Jefferson.

 Yup, make use of those rapids on either Vermont (754) or the one on Western (757). As far as I can remember, the 754's bus racks were full heading north in the day and late afternoon, so just a heads' up.

The 757 and 754 both end in the same area, at Imperial Hwy or 120th St, leaving you a nice 8 mile ride to the endpoint. I would personally avoid Imperial, anything a few miles south of that would be okay to cut across on. Also, Crenshaw below the 105 freeway sucks, Normandie or Western down to your endpoint would be less stressful.

The last northbound bus for both those lines is around 8pm.

 Those of you already hip to the buses, I'm surprised you didn't mention the freeway buses. The 444, 445, 446, 447 and 450 all go on the freeway all the way to the Gardena/Carson border near where the 110 meets the 405 (it's called the Artesia Transit Center, but it's not in the town of Artesia). It's sweet. The 450 only stops once after downtown and gets there in like 20 minutes. Just a short ride to Torrance after that.
