LACM first ride

would you consider lacm a good ride for a person first time?

I would recommend LACM at Halloween as a good first ride. That was my first ride and it was awesome.

I was curious to know how the police is at lacm, are they uptight and citing ppl or just riding along or what?

Police will be just riding along in solidarity as long as we obey the rules.
For example: A "circle of death" will mean a major crackdown.
They are not going to be as large of a presence as last time. They will be riding with us.
Do not cork! Either let the cops do it for us or stop at the dang red light. (It will change soon, seriously.)
Also, don't ride fast. Keep everyone at the same pace. You can mash on another night.
I support Alex Thompson's suggestion of riding to the Beverly Hills Courthouse to represent Hit and Run victims for the Blood In part 2 conference.
Let's make Critical Mass even more successful than last month.

Hey, Joe.
I was just wondering... Did you stop for red lights on the last Critical Mass?
I stopped for one and decided that running the red was safer than sitting there waiting to get hit by a bike.

It's your own decision to make.
I'm not one to tell you what to do. I'm sure that the police will be doing that for us.
The cops are not going to be out in the numbers they were like last month. I know this for a fact. That means there will be a lot less corking done by them.
All I know is LAPD do not want us corking ourselves. I understand that nobody wants to follow my advice. Shit is just going to have to go down the hard way I guess. I've given up all hopes to see LACM follow a Critical Manners approach in the future. Se la vie.

Last time someone bumped me at a red light on a ride, I dragged them for 2 miles before the bass from Alan Jacksons' "Neon Rainbow" shook them loose.

I probably will be stopping a lot. Whenever it seems right to do so. I just recommend to follow common sense. Not every intersection requires it. We all know that.
Last month I did not stop at many reds at all due to the corking that the police did. I did stop when we lost the cops in West Ho at major intersections. I ran some reds at areas of no traffic.
Basically - When it makes sense to do so. That's all. And if the cops are there, you're probably going to stop at the reds regardless, unless you want to take a risk at getting cited.
I hope to make it out. I mainly go so Allan can keep busting my balls.

So, if you are in the middle of the pack on CM and come upon a red light one block away from the start...
Would it seem right to stop for it? Will you be doing so?
If yes... I wish you luck.
If not... then at what point do you decide that it would be safe do begin stopping for reds--given that the whole ride had been blowing out reds up until that point?
To me it just doesn't make sense to do so when their is a couple of hundred bikes behind you that will not be planning to stop.

Fiday night dirvers in their SUVs will NOT be planning on stopping for bikes running red lights on La Cienega.
Corking the intersection of Wilshire Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd is pure suicide.
I don't think you can deny that.
If you are coming from the philosophy that many bikes can win in strength over motor vehicles, there must be some faulty logic going on.
Stopping at reds is respecting the code and represents us far better as real vehicles on the road than does acting like a douchey immature imbecile.
I can't control the behavior of critical mass. I just have some quixotic hope that not all people who ride bikes are complete lemming fools and can think for themselves.

Did you end up going Tupapi? Basically, if you can go ~20 mi. distance-wise, at ~10 mph, with a few stops along the way ... then you can make it just fine. I would say it is a good first ride to go on as there are people from all over the city / contingents of riders from the different group rides in the city. Plus, its huge and quite a spectacle.
The police do attend but they have been pretty chill recently. I haven't noticed them giving out many citations ... basically if you have lights on your bike and you're not doing anything flagrantly illegal or stupid, its pretty unlikely they would cite you.
