dude, wolfpack should ride out to mt. wilson, help the firefighters there keep the towers upright
cubcamp can go and help with the altadena edge of the fire
the various critical masses can hand out respirators and air quality info
racoons help with the evac in the area
mountaineerzz can build some fire breaks
we gotta get on this

You all might want to look into CERT training / Red Cross training first, if you're interested in volunteering.

The last thing Emergency Services needs is amateurs wandering around disaster areas regardless of how good their intentions are.

Call the local fire dept. first to see how much they'd appreciate untrained fire workers.

I was considering looking into seasonal, wildland firefighting to get my foot in the door, but even they want an ass-load of certification for that.

1)Basic Wildland Firefighter course
2)Basic Incident Command
and 3) would be an EMT-Basic certification.
Only problem with the last one would be the fact that I also have to go through the DMV and get my ambulance-driver certificate.
The way they do things here is they make you take that test in addition to making you take all your previous ones over as well.
Lose one, gain another that will cost me? Piss on that.

I'll have much better chances gaining helicopter flight time and joining the swinging-bucket brigade!!!
