In this CSX Commercial, we could carry 300+ pounds of cargo on our bike trailers. A pretty cool commercial I think.
Not that I could ride an urban bike with a refrigerator and dishwasher on my bike trailer, but I can give it some thought with some training and vitamins.
Orange County should take playbooks out of North County San Diego with it's inter-subruban rails of the Sprinter and the Coaster (rails that seperate and share existing rails) and a network of Bicycle Freeways (I had a good run on Rancho Bernardo to Poway along a seperate bike path on the Ted Williams Freeway) connected to bike paths.
Since they're slow to react, Irvine will turn to San Bernadino. A surburban hinterland. I'm kinda looking forward to that day actually.
I wish there was a train going to Eureka. They have all these rail lines connecting the different towns, held over from the old logging days, but there's no way to get up there except by car or plane.
I noticed some active interest in rail and bikeway investment here. If you are really serious about it write to our leaders in Government and let them know. The highway lobby is ramping up to demand the status quo in the infrastructure stimulus spending by favoring highway expansion, even though many of existing highways are in disrepair. Rail for longer trips, high-speed rail to replace short hop flights, and bikes & transit for shorter trips are the direction we need to be heading.
