Has anybody bought those fixed gear bikes from ebay that go for around 230. Im curious because i have a beat up mnt bike and its time for an upgrade but being a broke and unemployed student, times are rough. Basically i dont want to spend that much money on something if its not worth it.
Thanks

hmmm, i ordered one of these bikes... you get a complete bike that is much less expensive than building one from the ground up... I am positive the components are basic but if you are riding in Los Angeles and you are using to commute you should be fine. People have actually given me compliments on it on rides and I have not done anything to it... it comes with a flip flop hub on the rear wheel so you can go fixed or free wheel.... I think if you can spend a bit more you might be able to get a Mercier bike...

thanks for the review man!
these look like a great deal, and someone like me being a total noob to fixed gear single speed anything would appreciate the option of freewheel with the flipflop hub

Those are fine. bikesdirect.com has a range of fixies starting at about $279 as well.
If you're going to ride brakeless (bad idea) or with just a front brake, you may want a bike without the brazeon cable stops for the rear brake, but that's just aesthetics.
