WE TRAIN WITH CENTURIES
WHILE YOU TRAIN FOR CENTURIES
intense riding in some of LA county's treasured routes. come and ride your bike like it was meant to be ridden.
1. your heartrate will race (average 16-20 miles in an hour)
2. you will be psychologically tested. (no less than 62.3 miles)
3. you will likely need gears (always 2000 ft+ climbing)
4. you will need proper attire (helmet advised)
5. you will need money (for food afterwards)
endurance is everything. fitness is our goal. the right mindset is your best tool. we ride race distances, race type roads.
this is not a race. just enjoying daytime trafficless saturday riding at a fast pace.

yeah the roads were closed we went up anyways, at bretts peril. The ice was pretty bad near the top so we had to walk at parts, but all in all it was a good ride. The way down was really nice

Looks like overtraining syndrome
To last the season it's advised to limit intensity and duration to a
10% increase per week.
With a break every six weeks.
Dedicated81802.16.09 - 10:13 am
reply
actually my body is just breaking in its soreness, meaning my training is actually becoming effective. after climbing up to mulholland 4 times yesterday it really taxed me, luckily i get to take the day off the bike today.
i've been pushing minimum 40 each day, 80+ on weekends and 2 days of maybe rest throughout the week.
i think i have a while to go before i overtrain. im putting in 300 each week consistently right now.

yup. caturday has its share of suprise warriors. i mean i would've hated to have done the metric on a mtb bike.
we have regulars now, and the people that show up once and then leave the first 10 miles.

riding from ventura to sb going along the 101 is scary because you have to cross four lanes of traffic going 75+ along the ocean. it isnt like running across the freeway to get to the spiral staircase, either. a much safer (and caturday warrior way) would be to take the bike path up to ojai and then take highway 150 and go around lake casitas. there are still chalk drawings and stuff from when the tour of california went that way. the 150 takes you all the way to carpinteria, where you can then continue your merry way to the sb train station before turning around. on the way back you stay on the southbound side of the freeway in the bikelane the whole time so you dont have to be scared about crossing traffic.

Tyler,
I've done Ventura to SB a couple of times. We ride up the old 101 along the ocean and then come out at Rincon. The freeway ends at that point and then we take 101 past la Conchita. That stretch along 101 can be a little scary but there are lots of cyclists there on weekends. We ride up to Bates Road and then hang a right and go up 150 to Gobernador Canyon and then take 192 past Cate School. Cut over to the 101 frontage road either in Carpinteria or Montecito and then up Ortega Hill to paradise, aka Santa Barbara.

@tarsis
yeah you should definitely make it out. consider this the free gym membership ride.
i would advise most everyone trying to come out in cleats. that seems to be the biggets determining factor what not with all the climbs and all.
although this week is high intensity, next week we will take it pretty casual as it is the formal ride. so that might be a good first one to try.

I am in better shape for riding than I have ever been before.
Seems funny that this is the case, because I am living in a place with a lack of good hills / mountains. If I can keep it up, I will be able to ride with you all in the shape I am in at the moment. hah...this is gonna be fun. I will ride with you guys when I come out to visit. I will be in the LA area for two or three Saturdays in June. I want to try to fit this ride in. I have to others that are set in stone.

Dedicated818,
I'm actually a archivist for USA Cycling, specifically USCF, so I see a lot of race reports, and do an occasional interview. For my side job I sell bridges.
Also, it doesn't take a genius to see that iJunes doesn't know what he's doing training wise, and that he'll get chopped up in those races. Based on his claim that he wrecked 27 times in the last 2 years, I'm not confident he will make it out of even one crit alive.

Dear iJunes,
You committed to a 4/11 date. Now you are canceling because of a race on 4/12, at 3pm, that is a complete triviality (4/5 crit?!?!?). In the context of your "You train for centuries, we train with centuries" bravado, that pretty much makes you the biggest coward ever. Can't recover from a 3.6 mile climb in time to race? I used to race 8 times in 24 hours.
You can heckle me all you want to race now . . . but it pretty much plays into the general impression of you as someone without true commitment, impulsive and flighty. Race on 4/11.

I was thinking a few laps of Griffith fromTravel Town to the Los Feliz fountain to flush the legs out. I have to look at my schedule because I didn't get much done when I got home except eating about 2000 calories and sleeping 3 hours, then 2000 more calories at the english pub down the street. 400 calories of beer at least and working on 400 more beer(carbo loading) on the way.
I was really impressed with the speed the final 5 of you guys were pushing. You guieze have really upped your confidence but your tempo since the Big T ride.
Next time we will have to make Mitch do some more pulls on the climbs at the front. Ryan was killing at the end and he had to ride back to the west side.
REST AND STRETCH
Was it windy today or was that just me????

I'm good in the hills but I was getting fucked up in the flats. Was actually spit out the back for like 10 minutes at one point

wow the tiredness just sat in. guess its take out for us haha.
seriously though this ride got wild, quick. i blame christian. having a steady wheel to sit behind is a really different change of pace. the best part was when the ascent was over. some rest if i'm lucky, and then off the bike stuff at noho park tomorrow. mitch will never pull on a hill because he'll take off.
and we really need to get the B group together, its just difficult to have a slower paced group with only two riders. but leo and evan are gonna be riding our tails in no time!

We're going down los feliz, to san fernando, taking that all the way into santa clarita (should be a fun paceline), and then right to placentia canyon, do some moderate climbing through little tujunga and shoot it back. Total mileage 63 mi, if we're lucky we'll finish by 1.

Killer ride guys. Every week I see improvements. Sorry for barking out orders and tips all the time. You can tell me to shut up and ride. Looking good up Sierra and Placerita. Sand canyon was great tempo as people peeled off to set their own pace.
