Dangerous Handle Bars

This is a crazy concept that would probably get your ass chased and beaten down, but its fucking awesome, nonetheless.

Although i find keying cars to be a cowardice act when its done when no one is looking, sometimes drivers deserve to get their cars fucked up right in front of their face. Not all. Just the Assholes.

better than that:
Get a back pack suitable for lots of carabiners in a row down the back, strap a full length pump to it (to protect your spine) and for each 'biner put an awl from the dollar store so they hang like limp porcupine quills.
I got hit wearing one and slid from the gas tank to the front wheel well...rolled to my back as I went down, and it looked expensive by the time I landed.

I will never key a car. As some of you know, I have confronted drivers in the past....but well....anyways. Too each, their own.

also...those plugs wouldn't work.
If you were on a road bike, they wouldn't work because of geometry.
If you were on a fixie with bars that stick out at the sides or a mountain bike....when you try to make them work...the differential of the rider's speed and the cars speed will make the damage moot.
Let's just say the car was stopped...and you...angry cyclist came up to key them....you'd probably fall if you did any damage.

I used to just cut the ends off my grips. The exposed handlebars could do much more damage than those things.

Not to get all safety nazi, but the whole point of bar end caps is to keep the handlebars from impaling you like a giant piercing needle if you take a bad fall.
Putting pointy keys on the bar end caps is more likely to do more expensive damage to you than a motor vehicle.

Man Impaled by Bicycle Handlebars

A 49 year old man is dead after being impaled on the handlebars of his own bicycle.
It happened at about 9:30 Tuesday night.
A passing motorist spotted a downed cyclist in front of the Lake Lodge Apartments on Lake Avenue and called for help.
When police arrived on scene, 49 year old Vincent Sullivan was still alive, but he died later at the hospital.
An autopsy is scheduled for this morning.
TPD Spokesman David McCranie says there is no evidence to suggest that Sullivan was hit by a car, but he says it is possible and the autopsy should tell investigators more about what happened.

Avid cyclist is correct, and this type of injury is not usual. It happens when the ends of handlebars are not capped, plugged or covered by the grips. Actually, the end of the handlebar doesn't just poke a hole in a person. It cuts out a plug to the depth of penetration.

Actually it is not hard at all to crash in a manner that leaves your gut in contact with the handlebar end. Happens all the time. Seriously. The big difference is whether the handlebar had end plugs or not. With end plugs, it can't impale you. Without them . . the bar end makes a whole in you. Easily.

Everyone is so right!!
I've got a spike on one side of my bullhorns and I'm frequently covering it with a gloved hand so as to avoid any mishaps.
Will take off soon and replace with a fake jewel of epic brilliance.

As many of you already know, I've got 30" handlebars with red bar-extensions on them.
Drooby has already mentioned them looking like devils horns.
If anything, I've got to be real careful when following slim-barred folks through packed traffic.
I've already unintentionally taken out my fair share of side-views and scratched up a few panels!!!

yes, mountain bike + LACM west on Hollywood = accidentally scratch cars with handle bars

For what it is worth, whether you like cars or not, most cars are very significant purchases for their owners, and the vast majority of them are not intentionally doing you harm, even when the worst occurs. If every road user had an attitude of pre-emptive vengeance against those they think may wrong them, the roads would be a very unsafe place for bicyclists. Intentionally damaging or intentionally increasing the damage you do to a car in an accident is juvenile and stupid, and could easily wind up costing you a lawsuit or even jailtime if someone figures it out. And as someone who paid hard-earned money for his car, I've got to say you'd deserve it, too. Never mind that the only thing you are likely doing damage to is an insurance company's bottom line.

Well, I enjoy my current bar setup for the endless, logistical capabilities they entail.
At this time, I'm not bowing down to HR-pressure to remove them in order to satisfy the owners of vehicles parked haphazardly on any given street.
