Coyote vs. Cyclist???

I know it's probably the least of our worries... but, has anyone ever been messed with by a coyote? Because one lunged at me this morning when I was riding through Griffith Park. I pass them all the time on my morning ride, and they're usually pretty chill... but today I rode past one at around 19 mph (me in the bike lane, and it on the grass) and the thing freaking ran and lunged at my leg! I screamed and swerved around it, but that scared the crap out of me! There was a cyclist stopped on the other side of the road watching the whole thing from a safe distance, and he just flashed a peace sign at me as I giggled nervously and rode away.
...so... wtf! They don't usually attack people right? I thought they just ate my neighbors kittehs and stuff...

one or two wont bother you. They are way more scared of you than you are. Really.
A pack of them will possibly take you on though. If you are alone. And not very noisy. And skinny. And limping slowly.

when i run into them at night in ojai i usually just howl like a wolf and that gets them running.

limping slowly = climbing a big hill at 5 mph? This is my concern.

I usually have to pull out my brothers' M-1 Garand to chase off the packs that get underneath my stepdad's fence at night.
They hang around in the backyard and try to tear up the garden we got going back there.
Since Oak Hills is rural, many of the other residents already own guns themselves and could usually tell when a rifle is being fired to scare off some wild dogs.
Only reason the rifle is utilized is because there's usually 10-20 of these things running around.

Eddie, one was actually trotting beside me once as I was climbing a hill, and I was really amused, and felt totally safe... now if that happened, I would be shitting my chamois.

next time give him an angry growl and snare and let him know you are an alpha female. that seems to work for me with all the stray dogs that try and fuck w me and my dog when we are walking. i chase them away and lung at them till the stick their tail between their legs and run in fear.
