I've never met any edge kids that beat people up for drinking or smoking, or were preachy. And I've been edge for years so it's not like I don't know any.

With out exception every straight edger I have ever known now drinks and smokes lots of weed. Many taking a detour through raving on X on the way. It would be all too appropriate if we ended at a bar or liquor store so that the edgers could take their natural course to inevitable debauchery.
And since we (I mean I) have brought it up: could some of you awesome party people please start bringing CANS of beer, rather than bottles, to the rides from now on? Cleaning up your broken glass at this last CRANK MOB got kind of old after the second or third time, even with gloves on.
(And don't say "I was gonna clean it up," because you weren't, you lying cunts. You all know who you are.)
I know Minor Threat made the term popular and it originated with the Teen Idles back in the early 80s but i find no connection with the band 'X'. Anyone know the origin of where they got their name?

Exene is credited with coming up with X. She liked the ambiguious letter. It ment banned, it ment extreem (as in X rated movies), three of them ment poison. It was a tilted curcifix.
Mostly, she had a dream of seeing a big black X on the Whisky A GoGo's marque. No other letters, just the big ol' X.

all that militant straight edge religious utah bullshit can take a hike. that was all part of the new school of straightedge that earth crisis spearheaded with FIRESTORM fucking amazing album that all the OC screamo bands (that all suck and have no message) ripped off and turned mainstream
I dont know any of the names of the bands but I know the sound when I hear it and one thing those OC bands and screamo cant copy is the RAWNESS of FIRESTORM. Earth Crisis themselves couldnt handle it , their next album got all technical and shit. Destroy the Machines was mathcore. by then I lost my edge anyway

Eric Hair, about half the edge kids I've ever met are assholes. So the stereotypes aren't that off-base and I'm certainly not offended by them.
RBI, Adamantium is about the ONLY good hardcore band (besides Ignite) to come out of Orange County. I won't hold myself to that, though, because I may be forgetting something. But all the other bands are so terrible. Bleeding Through, Throwdown, 18 Visions, the 3 billion metalcore bands...ugh.
I don't really listen to straight edge bands, even though I've been edge for almost 7 years now. Straight edge lyrics are so boring. Seriously. But I'll take some BANE, Minor Threat, SSD, or 7Seconds any day.
We should just have a hardcore ride. Spanning from Minor Threat to Refused to Raised Fist to Paint It Black.
I'll just consider this the "Opposite Ride", in which no one will get drunk, but myself this time.

Can the date be extended to 1995 to include Content With Dying? One of my favorite albums. Chokehold came right after the Youth Crew stuff and before the Metalcore and their style and lyrics reflect it. Imagine, politics outside of sxe and veganism.

Back in the early 90's it seems like I'd go to a show with like 3 hardcore sXe bands and they have one all black funk-rock band like World Trust who was fronted by the singer of Hirax: Katon de Peña. Who I knew from working Zed Records (along with Frankm who was in The Cary Nation) which was at that time THE outlet for punk records for Long Beach and thee OC.
It seemed like alot of the hardcore shows I saw then had room for some weird shit to be added in that made no sense whatsoever .. unless you were a fan of Bad Brains in which case nothing and everything make perfect sense.

IM IN. My girl and i have been having discussions about that. there can be a bit much drinking on these rides at times. And i can speak for myself, i can get pretty trashed sometimes. im sure that multiplied by hundreds of riders and scheduled rides - that can get old sometimes. I can have fun sober... I look forward to the ride and more rides like this. I hope you all plan it in may.
