ANAHEIM – A 54-year-old bicyclist remains in critical condition a day after he was hit while riding around a car parked on an Anaheim street. Authorities are searching for the driver who hit him and left him lying in the street.
The bicyclist was pedaling west on Broadway between Atchinson and Kroeger streets around 5:30 p.m. Monday when he rode around a parked car, Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez said. A vehicle also headed west hit the bicyclist and kept driving, Martinez said.
Paramedics treated the injured man and took him to a nearby hospital, he said.
The bicyclist remains in critical condition with head trauma and other internal injuries, Martinez said.
Investigators don't have a clear description of the vehicle that hit him but believe it may have been a dark colored SUV or minivan. There is likely damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and the passenger-side mirror.
Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to call Anaheim police traffic investigators at 714-765-1961.
With more bikes on the road, this is going to become a regular news feature until the driving public AND the cycling public is better educated.
The guy on the bike should have kept a consistent line, out in the street and away from the door zone.
The driver should have been watching out for the bike. The fact that the driver didn't stop...well there is no accounting for that.
I hope they track down the asshole.
