I also want to make sure all the 818 team players bikes are in great working order. I have the tools and the know how to make sure everyone is ready to go. TC4TB has officially put me down as 818 POLO mechanic.
I would also like to lobby with the rest of the non-mallet owning public and get TC4TB to give some up for regulars who would like to practice. We can find our own ball, however mallets are harder. TC4TB and I constructed a new fleet of mallets this past holidaze weekend.

Biggest turnout of PLAYERS since the first 818 Polo BBQ this summer. It felt like a warm up for the Tourney we gonna have soon! 13 Skids and their entourage showed up, as well as some 310's and the Chinatown Mosey kids too. Everybody is getting so good we're going to run out of Beginner games!!!

Pull you seatpost out and check the diameter, should be etched into the seatpost. 27.2 is the most common size. I have some seatpost in that size. If you Pake is a little older it could be 27.0 or 26.8, they had some early runs that were smaller diameters. I might just have the small part you need also. If you can get pictures you can e-mail them to me. Let me know.
Bike Polo in LA seems to be a big cancer that won’t stop growing. All week I look forward to playing polo with the 818. We definitely should start earlier on Sundays to get bikes worked on and practice for the tourney. Chris if you want I could bring a bike stand for you to work on bikes. Since we are really close to the tourney Alex will you be deciding on your B team line up so they can practice as a team? Dave I hope your elbow is all good for this Sunday!
I've got a good rolling workbench I built with pegboard that has a park truing stand bolted on it too. It would be nice to have a little repair area on one of the sides. set up the tools and keep the bikes up to par.
I can do work at the rink with a stand much easier. I have alot of tools and can be somewhat mobile with them. I was thinking if anyone had problems we can work on their bikes another night than polo. 818 POLO BIKE WRENCH PARTY. I just want to make sure there are no mechanical issues during games against non-818 teams. I will offer neutral support for other teams, however if I leave a stem or wheel loose, thats your problem!!!!!
We should always have some tools at the rink, I know DASH brings some. I have the access to spokes and other things.

It's official, the new alternate Polo spot is at the tennis courts. After the most dangerous game of Polo I have ever played (and won) was over with, I was glad to get off that slick rink and into those clay tennis courts that rode just like they were dry. It's worth noting that because we used both halves of the tennis courts, (using the nets as linear boards) we were able to play 2X as much polo. The visit from 13 Skids was welcomed, and continued to be the physical game it always is, although it took a lot longer and was way harder this time. Those messengers can ride!
Another Mallet on Merit was awarded to the youngster Adael, aka Cinzano, aka that guy on a road bike. Everybody is improving, especially the people with 5 months or less in the game. You guys are making the more experienced players look less good every day!
But for certain, the MVP of the Night was Joey from IE Bike Polo. This guy got his shot together. That's not a typo. He was hitting that ball harder and sharper than I have ever seen him, scoring all 5 goals for his team on occasion. And this fucker rammed me into the fence so hard my hand still hurts. But that's Polo, I will live.
Less than two weeks until the tourney. Top Secret Night time Practice on Thursday. Do not discus here.

Attn Traveling Polo Playerz: If you are flying in to LAX you can take the flyaway bus for $4. If you are staying in the NoHo area where the tourney is being held, take it to UNION STATION and then catch the REDLINE to North Hollywood for $1.25.

No disrespect tc4tb's but isn't mallet Hacking a part of the Game. I understand the act of throwing a Mallet unruly, but if someone catches you slipping not gripping your Mallet tight thats another story..
Hitting a mallet is ok but Hacking a mallet with all your strength so that is breaks is not. If the only way you're gonna get at the ball is to break a mallet try hustling a lil more so it doesnt come down to that. Ski poles are to find. How would you like it if I broke your only Mallet Skano? Lifitng a mallet from underneath is way more effective anyways.
On another note I hope this 'Drama' does go away as I hate to see real friendships broken. Live by the mallet...
Another polo session, aaaaah. Satisfaction until the craving sets in again (which will probably be in just a few hours). Thanks to all who play hard, and to all those who coach me in any way. I know I've got a long way to go before I'm truly a pro polo player, but I get better every week. After each session I go home and figure out what I've improved in and where I need to get stronger. If anyone has any tips/pointers or anything from playing with me or watching me play, I'd be happy to hear (Alex, David -->you guys especially).

My bike does not look like that. That is an old picture I accidently posted. Alex have you stopped using your rear brake yet? You should give your front brake a try! Have you seen the photos of the NYC MAD tourny? That shit looks like it was fun! Notice most the elite are using fronts.
That does not make no differance! If they wanted to run a rear they can install the lever on any side. They use fronts because they know you get the best stopping power that way. Give me another week to get used to the free wheel. When you noticed how much my game has improved you'll know why.

2 weeks ago I had the court all to myself thurs nite, from about 9 to 9:45 (when I left). I climbed the fence and swung my heavy ass polo bike over so I could get some practice in. That was the fun. The lights were on in the court while I was there, I don't know about the lot tho. I hope it's kosher tomorrow nite too.

If the rink is clear on Thursday nites I am so down to make this a regular thing. I know its busy Mon-Wed, according to rink personnel and Friday and Sat are out of the question, due to other event interference. I know Bicykillers is on the same nite, but I am so addicted to Polo (I mean committed to Polo improvement) that I need to play twice a week at least. 310 had a Wednesday game but that might be dissolving, at least until they find a spot to play in that's not a burn.
OKay everybody here's the juice. 818 Bike Polo has blown up. We were missing 1/4 of the cities regular players and we stilll had too many heads. And it's only gonna get more crowded. This isn't a bad thing. I know people had to sit out 3 games or more at times, but those are just growing pains for our scene. I know there was some static about some of the games that got rigged and some people were mad about it, but it is a tradition in 818 to set aside a couple of games just for some of the Veteran players. We weren't intentionally shafting anybody, it's just what we do once or twice a night, especially when we get visitors who need their asses handed to them. It used to be hard to get even one of those games going, but now we have so many skilled players, not all of them are able to get in on those games, myself included. OH and you guys could show up on time and stay til 10 AT LEAST.
IN THE FUTURE:
*Expect us to switch the point limit to 3 instead of 5 when there are more than 12 players present.
*No All-Veteran games until the crowd has thinned out.
*And we will formally introduce pre-determined team matches LEGIT; If u want to battle it out with your own squad against another you can put the mallets for that game separate from what's on the fence, after the last set of six mallets on the fence for a spot in the rotation.
OTHER THAN THAT:
Shit was Awesum! Paul from Choppercabras has one of the most natural shots, from any angle or distance. When he gets his gearing to back to Coaster Brake Challenge ratios he's gonna be even more of a threat. It's always nice to play in the rink I can't wait til next sunday!
Good deal. I'm not interested in seeing people play favorites. I'd suggest if you want to have the more expierenced players play each other, then do so on another night. Sticking all the novices together won't build skills, you'll only get better by being challenged. Anyway, it's fun and I'll be coming back for more.
The tennis courts are always in use and nobody ever wants to play there either. IF we could play on another nite we would. The Vet games are kind of a reward for those who have progressed, and come out to play and devote time to the game, as opposed to just partying hard and hanging out. Whether they know it or not all the other new players have been in these Vet games. There is no prejudice against new people, they get free mallets all the time. I made the above announcement to let people know its not unusual for us to set up a game here and there for the players who have been with us week in and week out.

Don’t worry about people getting mad at you. Everyone will be mad at you at one time or another. It's what you have to expect when you are running a monarchy polo government. You are a great player and you love this shit just as much as I do. Everyone needs to loosen up a little and remember to have fun. Sometimes being aggressive can be conceived as (unnecessary roughness). I have no problem with it just expect it back. Everyone also need to remember that fundamentals will improve your game. Not putting your elbow into someone or trying to slow them down by hitting them with your mallet. Those are just a few things I notice.
Listen up squad. Captain Joker is gonna be at the Pit in NYC this weekend reppin' it hard. I had fun with you guys and I will be back, but this Sunday you guys are gonna have to run the show without me. If any of you want to post it for the others, go for it. While I'm over there I'm gonna observe real close how they handle large amounts of players, I hear they got as many as us.

Yo Skano if u want some HDPE I will give it to you... In Portland. I was just invited to be on a team for The Oregon State Championships next month. As far as the tennis courts go, they're usually in use- unless its raining. Plus the rink is waaay better. What we need is a second location to use during the week at night when the rink is busy.

Make a mallet out of a wooden dowel and handrail and play dirt rules polo (shuffling allowed) with a small soccer ball you can buy at a lil Mexican Supermarket (Vallarta, Jons) and play like that. We did this for years before the hardcourt revolution occurred.

NYC was Badass. If there was a city to move to, just to play Polo, other than LA, NYC would be a top contender. They have a lot of Highly Skilled players, with many different personalities. Their Polo spot The Pit, is SSSIIIICCKKK. You can watch from the sides 5 feet above the action, with 4 walls and two ramps coming in. It is really wide, but that allows you to ride around defenders easier. It is deceptively large, though 2/3 roughly as long as our rink. Definitely 1/3 or wider than our rink. The lighting is crappy at night, noticeably lowering the skill level of everyone, so you have to play during the day. It's in the Lower East side, near Chinatown, and infinity restaurants. I didn't play Doug but I did beat Menace and Zach once.
TMRW nite, (3-19-09) We be in 310. They're moving their game to Thursday nites so we can use the tennis courts and possibly the rink over there. This is waaay good news for us, cuz Sundays are getting packed and if we want to be best we have to play 2 nights a week at least. TXT Joker if u need a ride to the Westside.

@ Vadim: Go to the Bike Factory. As if I needed to tell you Morey has custom built tools that can perfectly straighten a steel fork, even if its bent back, left , or right. He has done this for me many times, and he has used forks aplenty.

When I get back I will make it out to polo and talk to you guys about what you might want to see produced. They have requested I send them some polo mallets for them to look at inspect and start playing here in Taiwan. They even want a ball sent to them. Bike Polo in LA seems to be a big cancer that won’t stop growing. All week I look forward to playing polo with the 818. We definitely should start earlier on Sundays to get bikes worked on and practice for the tourney. Chris if you want I could bring a bike stand for you to work on bikes. That does not make no differance! If they wanted to run a rear they can install the lever on any side. They use fronts because they know you get the best stopping power that way. Give me another week to get used to the free wheel. When you noticed how much my game has improved you'll know why.
