Hybrids are not better for the environment. They just shift the pollution and damage away from the most highly visible areas of our lives and society so hipsters can feel better about themselves without giving up on any of the conveniences of modern living.
Battery manufacturing and disposal are horrendously, mortifyingly bad for the environment. Look it up if you really care so much. Your hybrid will need to run for ten years just to break even with the damage that a typical petrol powered vehicle will do to the environment.
