This roadie vs. regular shit is getting way out of hand.
We've got one guy who wants to transform cycling into a mainstream activity to topple the dominance of the automobile of its throne.
Then we got another who wants to showboat some hardcore, disciplined roadie skills onto the fun-loving, mindset of everyone reading this board.
My money's on AT for this one in terms of sleeper-skills.

Alex Thompson03.5.09 - 11:57 pm

no such thing as sleeper biker skills, it takes a shit load of miles, and hard work to get good.
you lose muscle mass running, those legs arent going to be able to put out enough power to carry you up that hill as fast as junus caturday toned legs.
He works in westwood lives in the valley thats 2000' of climbing every single day. On the weekends he gets another 10000' in just for giggles.
Thats 20,000' a week, and you think you can just show up because you run a lot and challenge him? Come on man
robin swabin03.6.09 - 1:27 am
reply
Hmmmm,
The simple answer is yes.
The less simple answer is YES. I used to ride to PV, do a double climb, with the extra to the radar dome, and home. Three times a week. So I know what it is to ride.
Doing a climb longer than 8 minutes comes down to one thing. Aerobic power. It has almost nothing to do with muscular power. Think about it - when you climb is the limiting factor how fast you can sprint (muscular power) or is it how much oxygen your heart and lungs can supply to power your legs (Aerobic power, or V02max * weight).
It's the latter - it's all about how badass your cardiovascular system is and the efficiency of your stroke. The latter is largely dictated by genetics and diet (reducing your weight increases your VO2max as VO2Max = max oxygen intake/weight), and my stroke is clean.
I was gonna drop some full scale science on your ass, but decided it would go over your head. Suck my dick wylie!
Also, I think the likelihood that iJunes does 10000' feet of climbing on the weekend is about the same as the likelihood that Root Run averages 27 mph. True athletes don't need to exaggerate like that.
Alex Thompson03.6.09 - 1:49 am

I think this is gonna be interesting. I have only been able to "root" past Alex once out of pure luck / circumstances... dude is fast and persistent, he is also seems to be good at discouraging the draft.

jonnyboy03.6.09 - 1:51 am

27 mph average is like the average of a cat 2 peloton doing 50 miles, we would never claim that, i dont think we ever really claimed to be that fast to begin with, we just claim to work you

i manage me rest and my diet well.
i've been doing mulholland twice a day as a commute 7 months last year and 2 months this year.
which is also the reason why i use rest as an excuse for not coming out to the weekday rides ---->
i make sure im not overtraining, i pay close attention to the metrics of my training because i'm anemic (non-iron deficiency) so i have to make sure im not overtraining.
although i did at one point early last year and got really sick from it. i think i know my limits.
