i now live right next to the LA river path in burbank.
i haven't used it though.
i've heard that it's sketchy to ride through at night,
what's wrong with the path?
also, i've heard how glendale is kinda of dangerous to ride down as well,
can someone confirm?

You'll be fine. (unless you run into Borfo; be prepared to be violated in some manner)

I ride through the path at night now and then... it's cooler than griffith park in the sense that griffith park is PITCH black and I'm always terrified I'm going eat shit because of a pothole or get attacked by a coyote. It's more "sketch" in the sense that a bum with a fire under the bridge isn't out of the ordinary, and when it gets really dark I like to creep myself out by thinking someone is behind me or a swamp monster will come out of the river and attack me. But that's all fun and games and helps me reach my destination faster, even if it means I'm screaming all the way there, hahaha. You might get sketched out and think you'll get attacked by a bum or something, but it's pretty rare, I haven't heard of that happening. Oh yeah and watch out for other cyclists without lights and also pedestrians.

As for Glendale, it's really fine.
By the way, since you're on the border, does this mean you'll be at more LA rides? Or wait, rides in general? Wait, what's up with TNS? Heh.

any bike path can be sketchy.
but then any street can be sketchy.
I'm almost positive if you look at the statistics one is more likey to get plowed by an SUV than jumped by a hooligan.
On the other hand. Lots of streets have major debris pushed aside by cars and street sweepers, no so much on the bike path, where broken glass and goat head thorns seem to be more common then they are on the road.
Every route has its risks. It doesn't hurt to do the research to try and quantify one over the other. But, sometimes you just need to use your spidey sense and see what feels better. For some its screaming like a banshee down the bike path, for others is looking over your shoulder every time a car passes at 60 on riverside drive.

Seriously. The bike path is fine. I used to ride it to NELA from Universal for 6 years with no problems. Just don't spend any time talking to shady looking folks by yourself late at night. The thing I hate the most, is the unannounced roots that make a bump up past Los Feliz when you are riding in the dark. Oh yeah and the clumps of bugs that get in yer mouf.

after last night's mosey, I took the river path into the valley and use it regularly as part of my route back to panorama city. I've never had any problems, but I prefer san fernando at night because there's more lights and less random pedestrians. as with any sketchy neighborhood, just keep riding a quick pace to avoid trouble

i was jamming down the Ballona Creek path to work one day, mouth agape. And I had a little fly go straight to the back of my throat and tickle my gag reflex. I coughed and barfed a little with out stopping.
Fortunately I was only about 5 mins away from the water fountain. LA tap water never tasted so good.
A scarf or bandana is always a good accessory for any bike path.

Those bumps are at least marked now... so you can see them coming up. I've had a few close calls on that stupid tree root.
I used to prefer riding through Griffith Park because I was scared of bums and hooligans on the path. Now I prefer the path because I'm scared of coyotes in the park. I realize I'm more likely to be mugged on the path than eaten by a coyote, and I'm sure there's coyotes on the path too... I've just never been chased by one there. What I'm saying is, my decision is never based on logic.
Most of the time I cower at home unless I know I can take the Red Line home to Universal.

take it from a fellow glendalien........
our path thats runs along atwater, burbank etc. is safe.the only thing intimidating is the the lights.due to calif power saving they turned them off! so as long as you have a front light your okay.but if the oncoming cyclist does not have any then its collision.
oh,and coyotes live in the islands that are in the river so at night time they sometimes walk to the bike path.
gang activity, which was not brought as there is no need to anymore, is dimished.
this section of the bike path has no shattered glass as nobody drinks after hours there or at least they are throwing thier bottles away!
cheers

It's on the other side of the frwy next to the wash,
enter on Victory at the frwy, or Los Feliz near the on ramps or
go to the end at Flature drive.

Go down Victory all the way until you see the entrance of Griffith Park. Stay in the left lane, there's a small entrance to the path by the gate before Griffith Park starts.

The path is safe. I ride it almost everyday.
The lights are off because of copper wire theft not conservation.
The path does have one large speed bump though but it is marked by a pylon usually.
There are hooligans, druggies and weirdos but they dont fuck with you.
You have to worry more about asshole triathlon wannabe's, roadie dicks going the wrong way and fat fuck joggers not paying attention.
The big plus is that there is always new art. After the city repaints new stuff goes up daily.
