I believe the answer to the question posed in your thread title lies in the word "cheap"
but if performance is not what you're after, I wouldn't worry about it.

Then again...expensive doesn't always equal good either...

Crap.. I just re-read your original post. Tell me how they work for you cause my rear deep v is crapping out on me.

I think they'll be great beater rims. If "SGV guy" and JunkyRustyBikes can sell a lot of bikes with those rims, they'll work for your beater.

I've been riding vuelta's on my fixed gear for over a year now and they've never come out of true....excellent rims as long as you have the heavy duty spokes which mine came with. i got mine at "moms bike shop" I think on central. I paid $75 for the set.

I think they're normally $125 for the cheapest set of vuelta's....mine are not as deep v as the velocities...they're about mid way deep.
the difference with mine is that it's freewheel threaded....meaning i don't have a lock ring with my fixed cog on it...but since i don't skid and use a front brake, there's absolutely no need for the threading to be fixed. some will disagree but it's true...no need for a lock ring if you don't skid.
i think that's why they were $75 for both wheels.

So i've gotten the wheels, and they really fucking rock. On the heavy side, but so far so good. Tires aren't bad either. 100PSI
Came with black spokes (listed as silver), quick release front wheel, and also came with about 3 chips on the paint total... o well.
For that price, it's TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!
