Some drivers try to let us know they are behind us with a quick honk. Did they lean on the horn, throw coffee, yell profanities...?

I just honk back with a louder horn and watch the car swerve a bit.

Or 1(800) TELL-CHP. Try it sometime, you just need the license number and make of the car... nice and easy:)

seriously that shit is annoying. I understand if they are trying to let you know they are behind you but there are people who do it just because.

Sometimes people are giving you a "way to go!" honk or just letting you know they are there. As far as the angry honkers, that's just part of the game. I love it when I'm really tired after a long ride. I like Bentsrider's idea of carrying a louder horn. I'd love to see that.

I've been getting honked at more now that i always take the lane. I usually just wave at them and say thanks for the support. I find that this pisses them off just as much as giving the finger and cursing at them.

I know this won't be very popular, but do we always need to take the lane? If you are honestly hauling ass and going at or above the speed of traffic that's one thing, but if you're doing 15, you're blocking traffic. Even I don't like being behind a slow cyclist that's taking up too much road when I'm driving. Excuse the pun, but respect is a two way street. We have to be courteous too and realize that we can be very annoying by taking to too much space when it's not absolutely necessary.

3 months ago i got doored, broke my elbow, had to have surgery. one thing that i swore to my self is that i will never get doored again! no matter how much it pisses people off the lane is mine. now if there is no parked cars on the street i dont do it. i also try to take streets that have at least two lanes. but in all reality i really cant afford to go down again. i either quit biking or take the lane.

really? idk about that. i feel like its a honk out of annoyance.
go to any city where there is a solid bike community and drivers dont honk period. they give you room and go around.
i feel that the best thing to do when someone honks at you is to just go slower.

Another thing I hate aside from honking is when you're riding down a dark street/highway, you're properly illuminated, and some limpdick still has to shine their brights from behind(most often), or the oncoming lane.
I went over to Harbor Freight yesterday and got me some of the ORV-auxiliary halogen lights.
Put one on the front, one in the back, or both on the back and hook them up to the 12v on the cargo rack.
Flash me from behind, I'll fart it right back in your face.

Are you e-yelling at me or is your keyboard broken? Look, I get all my cycling advice from people who have been riding at least twice as long as I've been alive and I respect a great deal. They say that only dorks take the lane when they don't need to. Excuse me for trying to pass some wisdom along to you. If you want to piss off motorists, don't be surprised when you get treated like shit on the roads. I read all these horror stories on here about road rage and I laugh. People rarely fuck with me because I am courteous when I ride and I don't dick around. I can count on one hand how many people honked at me last year and I ride a lot, trust me. I love cycling, and I love to be good at it. I see so many whack people on bikes with no brakes, no helmets, with fucking earphones on. I see riders being rude to motorists and generally being idiots on bikes. How do you expect to get any respect like that? If all you're doing on your bike is cruising and getting drunk, then yes spandex does suck.
