Just went on my first Midnight Ridazz CRANK MOB journey last night! Lots of fun!

I really want to put together a little portable sound system for my wheels.

Any vets out there have any tips?

I have an ipod, music, and an old pair of SONY XPLOD 6x9 car speakers..

I went to Guitar Center today, trying to find a portable battery powered AMP to run it off of.. They didn't have such thing, but the Sales Manager did show me this awesome little piece of gear,

$150+ for everything you need and it packs a punch of a sound.. Plus it's lightweight and has hooks for a strap to wear around your back as you ride.

Can someone chime in? I'd like to save some money if at all possible.. Just can't find a better solution

the sound system that most everyone is using consists of a car amplifier, and an electric wheel chair battery. ...i use a 250 watt amp for mine. the battery is about $50 and the amp can be anywhere from $40-???

go on taco tuesday and check out cesar's system. it's the basic system described above. you'll also need the connecting wires and a rack for the back of the bike or a trailer if you wanna have a car battery for it to last longer. either way, you'll need a slow trickle charger. there's an electronic store in ktown that i got my stuff at. Digable soul knows the name of it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'd love the name of that K-Town store if you can get it.. You bought the battery, amp & speaker there?

How long does a wheelchair battery typically last and how big is it, compared to a car battery?

The link is also from ITC Electronics, the store Barleye mentioned in Ktown which is located on Olympic @ Catalina. If you're in the SFvalley then All Electronics Corp is a good choice. Kester @ Vanowen. You can get the wires there and ask them what gauge size wires you'll need and how long. The wiring is pretty easy. The + and REM will both go to the + terminal of the battery. The - will go to the negative. No need to worry about grounding.

The 18amp hour battery would be a good choice. They get really heavy after that. I use an 18ah battery and I've got a 250w car amp which lasts like 2 hours barely now. I need to get a new battery.

Yeah... CMob is one of those rides where I always see at least 4 systems. ITC has amps and speakers too. The speaker I use is a basic bookshelf speaker. And the amp is a basic amp. You don't want to go to high on the wattage for the car amp. Oh.. and make sure the amp isn't too big.... cause to make it a more secure setup.. the amp will be drilled directly on the speaker. Just makes it easier. Hope this helps and Good luck!!

We spoke about that amp on the thread marino linked to. It'll work but It's not gonna as loud. Well... it depends though. How loud do you want to be? Is this going to be just for you and maybe five friends? If that's the case then it'll work.

The battery would be different if you want to use that amp. It looks like you'll need to splice 12v power adapter thing and then connect it to the battery. And the battery you'll need will be much smaller cause that amp is soooo much more efficient compared to the car amps.

I'd like the option of it going a little louder if I ever wanted that.. So maybe a bad choice..

That electronics store in K-town, can I get everything there? Amp, wire, battery? Or does some of this need to be ordered online?

The first link you posted with the wheelchair batteries, can those be safely stuff into a backpack or do they need special attention, like standing upright? Ideally, I'd like to be able to put a speaker, amp, power all in one bag, strapped to my back, rather than mount it on the bike, which would require additional hardware..
