Think about it... do you really believe that the city of Los Angeles would let this happen? It's a landmark that everyone around the world knows and comes to see once in their lives. Let the people who came to Hollywood to find fortune and fame, whether through acting or music (or porn or whatever...) to help fund it. But, please rest assured that it won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN IS NOT WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO SAVE! JESUS WHY DOES EVERY ONE THINK THAT
the peak to the WEST of the hollywood called cahuenga peak is privately owned and the owner wants to build mansions on it. this has nothing to do with the hollywood sign, which is on mount LEE. they want to add both mountains to griffith park.

"To take full advantage of the incredible 360 degree views, the homes will in turn be highly visible to those down below. This will dilute the potency of the Hollywood sign, which as it stands now, is surrounded exclusively by green city-owned hillside."
That makes more sense. Seems developers bought Cahuenga Peak, next to the Hollywood sign, but can't afford to build on it? If the preservation fund can't get the money together, it goes back on the market this spring.
Why do douchebags always have to build their houses on the top of hills so everyone has to see them. Tasteful people take the overall aesthetics of an area into account an integrate their houses into hillsides and shape them to fit with the surrounding natural environment. Makes sense, so everyone gets a view but nobody ruins it for everyone. Uh oh, that sounds socialist - the Tea Partiers will be after me.
