woke up late, had a big ass argument, left the house pissed, caught the subway, didn't pay, now i have a ticket for fare evasion.
it is 9:18 and i'm so afraid how much worse the day can get.
anybody dealt with a fare evasion ticket before? i know theres the old buy the bus day pass and claim you had a ticket. has it worked?

Spotted you yesterday going east on Ventura just past Cold Water. I asume you where getting back from the Piuma/Sepulveda ride. Nice color on that bike, looked great in the bright sun.

I got one of these tickets before I knew any of the ticket evasion tricks. I showed the judge my bus passes from the month before the ticket, told her I had forgotten to buy a ticket because I was too tired from riding to the bus stop, and she reduced the fine to $100. If you want to buy the day pass, make sure to buy it on an actual bus- they give you a day pass that doesn't have a timestamp. Also, check out the ticket evasion thread from a few weeks back- about postponing the trial again and again until the cop doesn't bother to show up, etc.

Just give them a fake name for an evasion ticket. Tell them you lost your ID.

the thing is i'm on my last 14 dollars until friday, and im wondering if its worth buying that day pass. has anybody done the day pass on the bus and used it in court?

i actually didn't have my id, but they were cross referencing with people on the radio. they took my name and my birthday, and got all the info they needed in code that i didnt understand.
with the officer threatening to throw me in county for falsified info, it was a good idea not taking the risk. they eventually pulled up all my info over the radio, but i couldn't make it out. they asked me what my previous address was, and only because i got that correct they didnt make a deal of it
they were also trying to figure out how much i weighed, because i'm filed under 235 and theres no way i look 235 now, which actually came before the question about the previous address...

what did you tell the cop? did you admit to not buying a ticket or did you say you had one but couldn't find it? if that's the case it's easy to say that you were tired, in a rush, running late etc... and you didn't find the pass until you got to work and went through your bag. Then you can show the day pass from the bus as your proof.

i almost got written up but told the officers that i'd left my ticket in a jacket pocket and accidentally left my jacket on the subway. then for backup i showed the officers a bunch of old tickets to let them know that "it was a totally isolated incident"...so being a pack rat actually paid off. anyway, i wasn't written up, but maybe you can do something similar if youve got a bunch of old tickets to reduce or hopefully eliminate the fine. though since it's after the fact i can see how this may not work...whatever...just sayin.

i actually exchanged very few words with the officers, but i looked like i was constantly looking for my ticket.
i'm planning on showing up, saying that i've been at work since 5 in the morning, bought a day pass, and left it at my office on the way home.

the last time i got cited, i found myself in juve. i was ok with that
now as an adult, i have a little citation, and i'm flipping out.
because i can't afford that 250.

ack correction, it wasn't a truancy citation, but turns out i had a battery, and aggravated assault, tresspassing, and a whole other list of dirty laundry. then i didnt give a fuck cause, yeah i didnt give a fuck
now its just cutting a hole in my empty pockets.

If u kept looking for ur ticket, I'd say spring for a day-pass & hold onto it & tell the judge ya just couldn't find it at the time. If I knew what ride ya'd be doing next & I could make it, I'd scrounge up enough change to pay for ur pass. ((Uhmm.. how much IS a day pass btw?))
Or, if ya can get one from someone getting off the bus who doesn['t need it anymore.??

I got a fare evasion ticket last January. All I did was find someone who has a month bus pass and then go to court show it to the judge (And the thing is you cant buy monthly passes this late into the month) be like "Hey, I was in rush. I forgot my pass in my other pants"....SUCK THE JUDGES dick and they'll just slap your hand and let you off with a warning. Hopefully. Look real innocent. And wear nice clothes.
Make sure the bus pass does not have a name written on the back. And write yours.

$5 for the day-pass, while a monthly usually ranges between $40 and $60 depending on regular, student, or senior citizen/disabled.
If anything, it goes alot further than the cheesy, VVTA system we have up here.

The moral of the story is, don't fuck over what little of a transit system we have. Don't be a douche... buy a metro ticket. I apologize for my inability to sympathize.

I concur with you on this one Liz.
Anytime I hop on that train, I always have my ticket out in view to give the deputies little reason to question shit.
And for what it's worth, save grace and get yourself a Metro Day Pass, stat.
It's better to cover your ass in the case shit really starts to fly.

my house is otherwise flooded with tickets. i found one from dec 16 17 18 19 on these pants i havent worn in a while.
im broke right now and a 1.25 is the difference between a meal, and i cant afford to be late to work.

Think about it. $5 day pass versus $250 (or whatever) ticket. Buy the day pass and tell them you couldn't find it. Buy the day pass on the bus.

I didn't contest the citation, so there wasn't an actual trial.
A couple of other people have found ways to play the system, though. I know I've seen those threads floating around.

juno, yeah I'm pretty sure one can do 10 dollar monthly payments..
or go to court and fight it... it doesn't hurt to try....
thats what I did, but it was a metrolink ticket.. :(
the person who assigns the ticket must appear in court if he doesn't show then your off the hook... well also if you have some poor of some sort... two ways that I know....
