DOOR!

I was riding last night down hollywood right in my neighborhood and I came across a ridaa that had just been doored. He was in serious pain. Rolling around on the ground and grabbing his leg. It was awesome to see how kind everybody was to him.
The guy that doored him looked but didn't see him and felt really bad.
The rider thought he was outside the door zone, the door opened right in front of him and he tried to swerve but instead clipped the door and went over.
an RN was on the scene. Driver called 911. even though I didn't see it happen I stuck around to make sure the guy was OK, then walked him to the subway so he could make it to his destination.
I just had a pretty close call earlier in the day so it was freaky seeing this guy laid out.
I'm glad I got to meet him, but would have preferred less dangerous circumstances.
The whole time I kept thinking about all the DOTs ass-dragging and excuses about getting us some sharrows. More wasted money and wasted human energy because they won't paint the street.

The primary purpose of a sharrow its to indicate to road users that cyclists should be riding in the lane, outside the door zone. If a sharrow is painted in the door zone I think its been placed incorrectly.
Thats why some people hate on bike lanes, they are painted inside of the door zone.
