does anybody here take coumadin?
and more specifically, have you crashed while on coumadin and have to deal with any sort of internal bleeding?
reply
I can't go to the doctor :/
i don't really have one.
Also,
im trying to figure out if its even worth the risk of riding on rollers at home.
Im afraid that if i fell on my rollers, the force of hitting the ground might jar my organs and rupture something.
this shit sucks.

if you don't have a doctor who prescribed these pills in the first place?

@junu
hahhaha no way. i just wanna make sure i don't die.
@blueman
it was prescribed by doctors at olive view county hospital. but since it is a county hospital, it's basicallly impossible trying to get a hold of them or the pharmacist. I do see them again on tuesday so i'll just ask them all my questions then.

id sasy it makes a huge difference why you are taking the pills.
if you are taking them because of an underlying cardiac condition or something like that, I would not trip; at worst deal with it in the hopefully unlikely instance that you have a bad crash.
if you are taking them because you just had you spleen or some shit removed, i would be much more hesitant.

WTF ?
if you do not have a doctor why are you fooling around with scrips ?
Any benefits to your riding will only be temporary, but you might become
a lot slower when you wind up sick or with a condition.
Want to get faster go ride your bike.
Tip: This is old school,
Try a Baking Soda cocktail before riding.
Start out with a tablespoon of soda in a glass of water.
Baking Soda is a Alkaline which is the opposite of Acid.
It will help buffer the lactic acid your muscles produce.
Ever pour baking soda on a car battery with acid covering it ?
The acid disappears.
In all my years of riding the only safe drug I've seen to ride on is Weed.
No Brain / No pain

Read it again bro.
He is taking the med as prescribed, but wants to exercise at home until he is safe to ride again. This isn't a performance enhancement stunt.
On the other hand that baking soda tip is great.
I'm gonna go out back right now and clean the car battery.
SRSLY :-)

@dedicated
i'm not trying to use some drugs to try to get stronger or anything. i just had a stroke. i need to exercise and doc says jogging is out of the question bc its too jarring. cycling would be great except for the risk of getting hit by a car. so i wanna use rollers inside the house but im afraid that if i screw up and fall off and hit the ground it might really damage me. i dont know how sensitive my body is right now to the coumadin. the only thing i know is that i bruise easily and my gums bleed a lot when i brush my teeth.
@birdman
i'm in the middle of eating lunch. im gonna email you and hopefully we can help each other out. i REALLY appreciate it. i'm pretty bummed right now.
@trickmilla
thank you for clarifying.

how about just a stationary trainer? or perhaps a fork stabilizer for your rollers? that would be the safest i think. you wouldn't have to worry about cars or falling off. you might be able to pick one up cheap or since the weather's getting nicer, there might be some kind soul on here who'll lend you some unused eq.

Do NOT ride a bike on the street if you are taking coumadin. Coumadin is a blood thinner and prevents your blood from clotting. So if you do something that would cause you to bleed, it is very hard to stop it. If you hit you head, you could die. Even wearing a helmet. If you fall hard on your side, you could bleed internally. I would stick to riding a stationary bike and other non-impact excercise like swimming. Sorry to hear about your stroke. Be careful and heal well !!!

How about you start of with a swimming routine, Mike? It's good exercise, and there's no crashing involved ;)
