Anyone have one they want to sell? Or maybe you have one you'd like to recommend? I'm in the market for one but have no idea what's good and what's not out there, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i just want to ask.... why?
i can't sit on one for more than 15 minutes. anything beyond that is mental torture

pffft I distinctly remember you saying preferring rollers to actually riding on the road.
and that's some big talk for a wanna-be TRACK star.

that was in the freezing cold, i can't use my rollers in a 2nd floor apt building, and i was referring to the mental exhaustion on trainers cause they are solidly boring.

I have one of
these.
Works fine. Nothing fancy. If you're babysitting your 8mo old niece, you'll probably want something on the quieter side, which means you'll want to go with a trainer. They aren't that quiet, though, just so you know.

go for a fluid trainer if possible, some mag and wind trainers are noisy as shit. look on craigslist they come up often for 50-70.

Thanks for the feedback. As far as noise is concerned, when she's awake or even when she's asleep, it doesn't seem to really bother/affect her so that shouldn't be an issue. And I just need it for like 15-30 min intervals tops anyways, I mean, I'm baby sitting my niece, which I take seriously, so it's not like I'm going to be on it for hours while the poor thing does her thing by her lonesome.

i rode on the rollers for almost 4 hrs last Sunday because i was doing a bunch of demonstrations for an ALC event. yeah it's mind-numbing but i think my ass suffered the most.
rollers will help to improve your form, efficiency, pedal stroke, balance and speed. they are a good supplement for any kind of riding. there are a lot of benefits to workouts on the rollers that you can't get on the road. you can probably score a brand new set of rollers for less than $150 (Traveltrac or Cycleops). from what i've noticed, the cheaper rollers tend to make your entire apartment vibrate more.
an indoor trainer will help you get a workout when you can't go out and ride. an indoor trainer can help to build your aerobic system or your anaerobic system depending on what you do with it. you can add resistance to get those climbs going or go low resistance and spin out all day long. a good trainer is the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine which has an optional power meter/computer.

Listen to Keiron (139). But Rollers are the best. You will notice a major positive difference in yer riding with rollers. do 45 minits and yer quads turn to jelly. I borrowed a set from Morey at the bike factory once. He was demo-ing them to me and he got on em and rode no handed. Anyway, leave some towels down for how much you will sweat, and they are kind of loud. But seriously, if u rode them frequently you will definitely improve both your strength and stride. Rollers are the shit, if you can hang. But you must have some really good loud music on.

And thanks Alex for the feedback. It's very helpful. I'm definitely leaning towards rollers at this point but I want to wait and hear what Lindsay says about her trainer.

In short, both are good workouts when you can't hit the road, but with Rollers, you really get your money's worth. 1hr on rollers, is easily 2hrs or 3 nonstop on the street, of hard riding. Definitely gets results you can feel.

rollers are definitely worth their money, so don't buy cheap. keep it alloy, the cycleops rollers are the best entry level rollers i've seen but start at around 250 or so. kurt kinetic fluid trainers can be had on craigslist fairly cheap and work fairly well.

the minoura he is selling has the side roller on the trainer instead of rolling on the tire itself. i tried one out this past weekend and it was rather smooth and quiet.

Rollers are always technically going to be "better" than a trainer, but it all depends on what you want - improve riding skills or physical fitness. Like I said, rollers can be noisy, but if you're not worried about waking your niece, then whatever. Get your girl to sit on the floor next to you while you do it...she'll like that...just trust me on this one.
For my purposes, a trainer is more than adequate. I use mine solely to sweat/burn fat and increase endurance, nothing hardcore. I'm not too concerned about improving speed, balance and strength at this point (I break chain rings. I think I'm strong enough lol). I got mine to be able to ride
longer, not faster.
That trainer has multiple settings so you can make pedaling easier/harder....add gears and you can give yourself a tough workout. There was a
noticeable improvement in my endurance after just a few times on the trainer, about half hour to an hour each time. Like Alex said, throw some towels or newspapers down 'cause you're going to sweat like a pig. But that's the point.
A major drawback on trainers is it causes mad flex in your frame and wears down your rear tire fairly quickly. If you go with a trainer, use a bike you're not worried about wearing out.
So yeah, I like my trainer. I mean, it's nothing amazing, but it gets the job done and doubles as a bike stand haha....and I like not having to actually concentrate on what I am doing. My brain works hard enough all day...it's nice to shut it off now and then.
Either way, you'll get a good work out and notice improvement in one way or another.

I was leaning towards rollers anyways but all the added info helps out so much. I mean, honestly i didn't think it would take that much effort to hop on rollers. you sold me on 'em. good seeing you as well, in your cop car! haha.
