My bike was stolen off the bus today. It happened right around 3pm. It happened on the 217 bus. It happen right between beverly and melrose on fairfax. I feel like shit. It was my fault. I was too tired to ride and forgot to lock my bike on the front of the bus. I did file a report and will constily hound the metro bus to give me a video/pic of the fucker that took it. The driver told me it was caught on tape.. Everyone please don't be an idiot like me. Lock your bike on the bus or just ride it.. I hate myself for not doing it. A pic of my bike is on my profile.. No Internet yet at my new place to post it. Please everone look around for my bike.. I'm putting a 200 dollar reward.

I can not describe the feeling that I have now. I feel like a peice of shit. That bike was my fucking transportation to work and eveywhere else. And to have a bike stolen again sucks even more. As you can see on that bike, I put alot of time and money into that bike. I don't think I have the heart again to put in more time and money into another bike. Makes me think of just buying a fucking car and just driving like a normal LA douche. Having two bikes stolen in a year sucks. Both technically my fault. Should I just give up in MR now? Something I have officially done for a year now. Is going through building a cool looking fixed gear bike worth it now with punk kid assholes running around this city stealing them? Say what you want to say about fancy shmancy fixed gear bike with aerospokes. It's a fun hobby swamping for new parts.. Buying new parts to make your bike look "sick". I found it fun. In addiion to that I ride my bike everyday and everywhere.. Riding my bike wasn't a hobby or something i did for just bike rides and night. I have no car and used my bike to get to work. I biked to silverlake to Venice everyday and still get around doing rides at night.. It was more then transportation for me. It was my lifestyle. And to find people who are just like me and who love riding bikes on MR was nothing but magical for me. For someone to take my bike and take those feeling away is such a horrible feeling.
Sorry guys for my emo rant on here.
I can not wait to get the picture and video from the bus camera and blast this fucker on the internet.

As attached as we can become to our rides (I know I'd cry if my bike got jacked), keep in mind its just a bike.
Quite Midnight Ridazz and buy a car? Parish the thought!
Buy or build another one and invest in a sturdy U-lock.
I don't think I'll ever ride the bus without locking my bike in the future. Seems this theft from a bus rack is increasing

Don't give up Henry. I've had two bikes stolen in this city as well. My most recent bicycle was stolen last August on a ride. I didn't think about bikes for the next 2 weeks. I said at one point that I was done riding bikes in LA just out of frustration and loss. I gradually stepped back into it, worked a few extra jobs and bought another bike. After two bikes, I don't let my eyes off of my current bike. I carry it into supermarkets, shops, lock it everywhere. You just have to be extra anal about your shit in this city. You'll get a new bike man.. I know it.. There's no way you could quit when you've come this far..
and remember, it's not the Bike, it's the Ridaa

What a drag.
Build up an old MTB with slick tires for your commuting.
You can find them for $25-75 on craigslist, and some of them even have horizontal dropouts so you can do a singlespeed / fixie conversion if you feel so inclined.
They're less likely to be stolen, they hold less emotional value, they're easily replaced, and they're fun and bulletproof.

why would you leave your bike on the front of the bus and not stand next to the driver watching it every second? its the same as leaving it outside against a pole and walking away. kind of your own fault. hate to say it. I saw this happen to some girl when i was on the bus the other day. Dont be nieve. the world is a fucked up place. watch your shit. hate to be so brutal but now you know. lesson learned

Henry, I'm sorry you got your bike stolen, but like you said, you know that's it's your own fault. I don't want to rub that in...but please learn from your experience and pay attention to your bike! I've had to go head-to-head with two thieves in the past 6 months who tried to take my bike off the front of the bus. And they weren't even all that pretty - you've seen my crussy blue everything bike. Someone tried to jack it anyway. If it's truly important to you, then remember to act like it. Lock it, watch it and trust no one. That's how it goes in this wicked city. I don't wanna give you a lecture, but if you're letting your shit get jacked from under your nose then maybe it needs to be said. I hope you don't ever let it happen again.

You don't even have to lock it on the bus, dummy. Get a cheap ass lock and lock it with the fram and the back tire, that way you don't piss off the bus drivers and your bike is secure..and if the jack ass who is trying to steal it attempts to ride it, his ass ain't going no where...then you get your u lock and put it up against his head...but like real fast

I've never locked my bike to the rack, and haven't had a problem. Apparently the bus driver sitting right in front of the bikes doesn't pay much attention of give a shit. There is only two places' not the hard for them to remember a face.

Lock it to the bike rack. 99% of the time the driver won't say boo.
If he/she does say something, then and only then lock up the frame and wheel.
Stay within eye sight of your bike while on the bus
I won't say all, but many bus drivers I encounter while riding don't even seem aware of cyclists on the street. I would not expect them to even notice a bike getting jacked, right before their very eyes!

Focus the anger on the little shits that took the bike.
In the meantime, do what you got to do to get another rig commissioned.
After the champagne shattering over the hull, "for he's a jolly good fellow" christening ceremony, be vigilant and keep your eyes peeled.
These fuckheads are bound to slip up and get caught holding their own dick in the middle of the street.
That's where you kick 'em down, RodneyReginaldDennyKing their ass, and ride away knowing they'll stick to getting their arms jammed up in vending machines from now on.

I am not from LA.. But I do take some fault. It was my mistake not locking my bike in the front of the bus and not looking after it. I have learned my lesson. I still feel like shit.
However I have hope that I can still get my bike back. I found my orginal receit and serial number on the bike. I'm hoping maybe the shit head that stole it gets caught.
And hopefully I can get a picture or video from the bus.. I'm constanly hounding and calling the MTA police for it. They said they can give it to within a week.
