Thus Climbed Zarathustra 2010

An urban cyclocross ride/race through the Eastside of Los Angeles where participants pedal to stairways, portage their bike and climb 'em, before heading to the next one. It's fun, challenging (but do-able) and eye-opening: you'll probably see parts of LA you haven't. And if you don't want to race, no problem. During the inaugural event a few folks stopped at a garage sale and picked up a messenger bag for cheap!
Fast folks should finish in 60 to 75 minutes and more leisurely riders can complete it in about 90 minutes or so. I think. Haven't nailed down the course yet.

This is a Swarm! event.

Where's the love for this ride/race? Don't you see how dope the flier is? That's reason enough!

Hey, I'd be there if I didn't have to be in San Fran that evening.
Will definitely attend the next one.

Maybe because Wolfpack Hustle Crash the Marathon race is the same day?
or
Maybe a lot of riders grew out of Nietzsche fandom?
I want to do both... im not in shape to do either in respectable fashion, but i'll do one of them...

An unfortunate schedule conflict but not impossible to accomplish racing in both events. This race is really fun challenging and you will discover a new cubby hole of echo park I don't care how much you think you know the area. Race the crash race, sleep for 3 hours then hit this race. I'm gonna see if Bike Punk is down to make a prize for entering both races.

WP: 4am - get to pier at 5ish?
Hang out, watch someone receive 74% increase of street cred...feel jealous... ride back.... home at 8am without any street cred
Sleep or Read up on Nietzsche to save face..
if sleep, wake up at 11:30ish
eat something.... explain again to girlfriend why I have to do another ride...
dog park... 1pm
ride, run, carry, crawl, crash, throw up...
return home... explain to girlfriend why I did all this and lost street cred... blame her... break up... ride more... get stronger
gain street cred...
sounds fun.
Ok Im convinced. I'll do both.

Hmm. Well why don't you give a special prize to the person who does both the WP Crash Race and this Urban Cyclocross.

Rad.
There will be a prize for anyone and everyone who does not only the Crash the Marathon race and Thus Climbed Zarathustra, but the Gold Sprints the night before at the
LA Streets Summit after-party at the Junction Block next to Not a Cornfield (flier coming for that).

I sent you a text....
Im doing the crash ride and cyclocross.... not sure about the sprints -- I want to, but I may have some other stuff to do.
----
Curious if I should use clipless mtb shoes for the urban cyclocross... I have a feeling I'm going to roll my ankle on some cement stairs....
What are others doing in that regard?

I'll use my MTB shoes with SPD pedals. The shoes are getting a little worn so the cleat clicks on hard surfaces but I don't really slip around (yet). I commute and tour with these shoes so walking is not a problem. I'm not planning on going very fast....I don't think it's worth falling down some stairs.

Echo Park Cycles is donating a (certificate for) new bike shoes for first place! So stoked.
In the past I have run toe clips and running shoes, but I'm a total nerd. Fixed one year (with brakes) and a road bike the other.
There is no riding down stairs (or really even an opportunity to if you wanted) and no dirt downhills.
I have not actually seen the course, as I'm not the person who created the race, but I know there was talk of a run up on that lowly dirt road in Echo Park...

The question is, will anyone outside of Swarm! crew show up today and finish the Triple Crown of ridiculousness: Gold Sprints, WolfPack Hustle marathon crash and Thus Climbed Zarathustra?
Hope you kids set your alarm..
