Mountain Bike Ride Thread

Thread started by

I'm posting this thread for anyone who wants to do some MTB riding or rides. If you are planing on a ride or want to hook up with people to go ride, post it here so we can get all the trail heads together. Does anyone have regular ride or morning loop they do and want some company? Post it here. Does anyone have questions about off road cycling? Post it here.
For Example:
Tues-Fri I do a morning ride that starts from either the cab and the bottom of reseda or if muddy or not feeling really strong, I go to the top. I normally ride to the hub (a central meeting point) and then turn back. This usually tkaes me between 40 minutes to an hour. I'm usually up there at 7 am, we could meet at the coffee bean on the corner of Ventura and Reseda if you wan to roll. There are longer loops we can take and the trail can usually be ridden after a rain.
On the wekends I like to go a little further and do the eagle rock loop. Same start time but takes about an hour more.
On Mondays I like to do a longer ride somewhere else, I plan as I go and when I have time. (I'm off on Mondays).
So if any of this interests you, then feel free to contact me.

this thread was made for me! haha i've always ridden a mountain bike on all rides, but never done a mountain biking group ride before. love riding in the mountains though. i've been thinking about planning a MTB ride but my rides would involve the hollywood hills and santa monica mountains. it's tough for me to get over to the valley side

Good deal, I'm going to go to the top of Reseda and do the eagle rock loop in about 10 minutes, the cab is too muddy after a rain and it;s big time tore up from the last few rains we've had.

Off Road questions ?
If your a Hipster riding off road,
is it still fashionable to wear tight jeans below your ass ?
What type of hairstyle is best ?
is it still ok to have your bangs covering your eyes ?
Do you need brakes for off road ?

Mountain biking will stay hipster free.
1. It envloves effort.
2. Very few people will see you, so having the "right" t-shirt won't matter.
3. No gas stations or 7-11's for beer stops.
4. Everyone you see is in lycra so they have tighter pants than you.

For sure, If you have any questions about riding trails there are many experienced bikers on this board that'd be glad to help get new people out on the dirt.

I have a lot of bikes, but for out here, all you'll need is a hardtail of some kind. Most of the trails are fireroads with some single track. Latley I've been running the klunker. 1952 Schwinn with drum brakes.

hey man, it is kind of a lot all together, this isn't factoring in any food, water, or beer, or nugs, or whatever....be certain to bring any of the aforementioned items before, stuff is super expensive on the island!
$66.~ roundtrip from long beach to avalon harbor on catalina island
$6.~ bike carry on fee
more info here:
http://www.catalinaexpress.com/scheduleFaresLongBeach.php
$35.~ catalina island conservancy pass, this is good for 1 year of biking on catalina island and the most economical of options for their passes
more info here:
http://www.catalinaconservancy.org/index.php?s=visit&p=biking
$107.~ total

the frickin' rain! i don't know, i'm definitely not making the 6:50 ferry out though
weather.com and accuweather.com lead me to believe the rain might pass soon, i found a webcam link so i keep checking that now, i hope it clears up but then i'll still probably be going for it in mud trails, argh! so frustrating, if i don't go this time i will feel like i am letting myself down, last time i got crazy sick and couldn't go

Well, reseda and rocky peak are the only two spots that can be ridden after or even during a rain, I'm skipping out today but if it's sunny tomorrow I'll be hitting tha trail for sure.

we just added a 3 mile section of single track near the Klunker Run course in Palmdale. The rain does nothing but help. We can ride the minute the rain stops. Sunday morning the dirt is going to be perfect and we have a big group ride planned around 9 if anyone wants to come up!!!

wow that was nuts!
there was a lot of rain, very strong wind once i got to the very top of the hill on the way to the airport, i got hailed on too (glad i had the bike helmet on, those little pebbles from the sky hurt!)
the hill going up towards the airport is one of the hardest hills i've ever climbed, thoroughly kicked my ass, it wasn't raining much as i climbed the hill, got all sunny and hot for most of it, once near the top a dark cloud came over the island and that's when the hail started
so i'm sitting up on the top of this huge mountain in the hail, and these 10 or so high school kids come hiking up towards the spot i am at, hail smacking them in the face and whatnot, i was tripping out that they were out there hiking around in the insane weather, they were equally as tripped out to see me up there on a mountainbike haha
i'm going to go again in 2 months, last weekend of april probably, april 24th., if anyone is down for it hit me up

I've camped on the far side with my bike.
If you go in July / August it stays pretty warm.
So you don't need to much gear or clothing.
Wonder if they still have Buffalo burgers at the airport ?

Reseda to the hub & eagle rock loop Wednesday. I'm going to go if it does not rain. I should be up there by 7 or 8 am. Any takers? let me know. Anyone doing Reseda to the sea should come check out the trail and see how you'll do. I'd say this ride is moderate at best.

Anyone down for some early morning trail riding? Reseda, the cab? To the hub? The eagle rock loop? The back bone? Any takers?
There are some awesome trails and amazing views out there and in a city with millions of people, I see one or two other bikers up there during the week. It's a shame really.

We will be doing a night time mtb ride if anyone is interested. For now it's a short hour loop with some street riding. This may change as we grow in numbers. Good times bring lights.
We meet on Thursdays
At 7 pm, not 7:15 or 7:30...7
At Aliso Canyon Park
ON Rinaldi between Reseda and Zelzah.
