Chill Average 8-10 mi ride and then hang out. If you bring your beach cruiser, make sure you are fit enough to push all that weight. We don't go fast, but I have yet to see more than 3 beach cruisers finish the ride.
zooom weee I'm on my beach cruiser... you guys are guys are going to slow ... Im going to attempt to look cool and haul ass on the sidewalk ... wait, Im just going to crash ...
Wait ... so you remember what his bike looks like but not him..... well yeah ....
Sounds awesome...I'll be there, no doubt. Don't bring snow clothes to work or nothing, but have a thermal in my bag somewhere. Hope that+my sweatshirt'll do...I like adventures!

Great route. !I'll probably be walking from point 6 to 7 (though I doubt I'll be alone) and then my brakes will finally give out on the way back down. I CAN'T WAIT! Besides, some say I've lived too long already, or at least that's what I think my ex-wife meant when she yelled, "F%(K off and die..."

If I don't make it out tonight does anyone want to lead tonight? I'm probably not going to make it out ... I'm not getting into specifics.. if I don't show up .. the ride still goes down ....
GOOOOD... !!!! Dude .. .I'm glad I checked this because you could see smoke coming out of my ears that's how mad I was .. I had to pay 15 bucks to get in my office .... but I forgive you ..ONLY because .. I find it amazing that you somehow got home in one piece .... I wont get back to the valley until around 5:20ish .... You honestly have no idea how mad I was ...
Okay now I'm not mad @ all as Manny put it on the book we will be laughing about this later... I hope you found your phone.... I had a feeling today was going to suck at work and sure enough it did.. Dealing with a downed email server and no keys is bad news .. when would be a good time to get me my keys?
i said this before you emailed me ... we wont roll to the old zoo ... I think we will save this until after Salton See ... but if you want to know .. the Old Zoo is the old LA zoo ... in the park ....
Solid riding last night ... minus the crash at the end ... Thank You to everyone who came out ... we didn't make it to the actual old zoo but found a solid new spot....
How cold? I accidentally forgot my extra layer at home. I have some, but not my usual extra long sleeves. Are we talking like the night it was 40 degrees cold? :)

There was probably like 20-30 people .. this ride has been rolling pretty deep the last couple of weeks .. we rolled thru Burbank .. even after I said we are not going to ... O well ..
The cops in Burbank can be a a bit rough.... I like going that way because it forces people to do the right thing... because if you get pulled over in Burbank .. your getting a ticket . .. as long you are not running lights, riding on the wrong side of the street ... etc.. your cool ...
Yeah .. last time we went to Castways to people showed up brakless ... One guy bombed the hill like it was cake .. the other .. yeah .. not so lucky ..
We come back way before the train leaves .. and the ride starts and ends at NoHo station .. people who live in the area normally dip out as we get closer to the station . ...we normally end around 11:15 - 11:30
Well, I just printed the map to the Castaways so I'm prepared. I probably won't be 'testing' my breaks all the way down a steep incline, but I'm happy to wait at the bottom while you guys ride up and ride back.
Ignore me, I'm just being a nervous Nellie! Hehe! I've never taken my new bike down a steep incline and have no idea how it will handle or how the breaks will work - or not work. LOL
I'm sure we'll all have fun as usual, so no worries.
Oh, I know there is no shame in walking. I'm happy to walk up and down the hill. My bike is not a mountain bike, it's a beach cruiser, and I've never tested the breaks and I don't think bulky, heavy beach cruisers are meant to be ridden down hills like mountain bikes and fixies...down steep hills since they don't handle the same and don't come equipped with a breaking system meant for steep hills.
I really do need to get tires for my ten-speed! LOL
Your beach cruiser is almost as light as my bike (I never thought I would ever say that) but if you don't feel you can make it down the hill ... Its cool ... Im not going to force you to .... Im saying the hill is big because it is ...but mainly for people who ride fixed and don't have brakes ....
Is it raining in NoHo right now? My girlfriend and I are thinking about attending but we don't want to make a 1.5 hour drive for nothing.
We went to Boba Saturday and no-one was there. Not even the organizer. >: |
The boba coffee was easily the worst we've ever had. Then it started to rain. That sucked.
So, is anyone going to be meeting tonight for sure? Does it look like rain at the moment?
Well, she DID say spandex ALONE does not make you look like a girl! Ergo, it would take a lot more than that to make you look like a girl, ergo you DON'T look like a girl. LOL
The only reason I want to know is because I was thinking about going on the LAriver bike path ride to Los Feliz this afternoon, and if you're doing a shorter ride - to the river like week before last - then I will show up tonight, if you're doing a long one - to the Sepulveda dam, then I may have to skip it. :)
Cannot wait to see y'all tonight. Gonna be awesome as always. As Prince said, "I don't care where we go, I don't care what we do...Just take me with you!" :)
Last week was my first Rehab in half a year and I want to do it more, but this is a good week to take off... I'm completely busted up from the race. Even a mosey sounds like murder right now.
Im sure a lot of other people are dead to the world today .. I have way to much work I need to do.. SO DO NOT SHOW UP!!!!! Next Monday we will continue the awesomeness ...
"I'm sure a lot of other people are dead to the world today .."
LOL! That' is so true! I had to sleep in all day yesterday just to recover from the mega-rides two nights in a row. LOL I will see you next Monday. Take care! --G
ALSO ...... BE ON TIME!!!! We are leaving at 8:30 sharp .. 8:30 SHARP ... Im not kidding about this at all... You will be left at the start with a dumb look on your face .... SO BE ON TIME...
"How do you get dropped on the Rehab? isn't still like 10 -12 mph?"
No, the ride is more like 14+ mph, and I drop out at 11 mph or so since I"m on a beach cruiser so if I'm peddling as fast and as hard as I can in the best gear on a straightaway then I top out at 12 mph, and who wants to ride that hard anyway?
The Valley Girl ride is mellow, stays at about 7-9 mph the entire time so that is probably a better fit for me.
OK, let's actually get the facts straight here. You dropped *yourself* because we actually waited for you & looked for you. We believe in No Rida Left Behind.
The ride also has specifically stated in the past (if i remember correctly) that if you have a beach cruiser you may want to rethink coming on this ride, as you will have a difficult time. Also...
"who wants to ride that hard anyway" Uh...some of us DO. I *like* to challenge myself.
You have stated in previous posts that you like going slow. Know what? Do what makes you happy/comfortable. That's what this whole thing is *about*, ultimately...If that means sticking to the Valley Girl Ride, do it.
But don't say that MNR dropped you, because you dropped yourself.

I did not drop myself, I was dropped, I lost sight of the ride before the air port, by the time I got to the airport no one was there. I waited at the air port for a while and cruised the vicinity but did not see anyone. So, yes, I was dropped.
Well, riding "that hard" on a beach cruiser is not the same as riding on a bike built for speed, so it's not challenging so much as it can cause injury, I actually pulled a hernia ridding too fast on it a couple of weeks ago. So don't be such an angry ass hole. I DO like challenging myself too, but I don't like INJURING myself. If you paid attention you would have realised that.
ALso, I know they talk about beach cruisers having a hard time, but I've been on the ride since winter and it's only the last two times that I was dropped, meaning that the ride has become much faster in the last couple of weeks.
P.S HC you need to get the fuck out of my life! I mean it man! I"m sick of you stalking me.
LOL Well, shit, she's the most judgmental person I've ever met, she gave me dirty looks the firs time she was me on a ride...long before I ever posted here.
When OJ gave me his funny spoke card I said I thought it was a joke! And she said "Really?" in dead-serious tone and gave me a dirty look, then not five minuets later another rider said the exact same thing I did when he got his card and she did not give him any grief. It was a funny card, my comment was totally innocent but she made me feel like a fool for saying something innocent and she's rude to me too. I'm not going to sit here and let her talk shit to me and not say anything about it.
i've never heard of this before in my life.... how was she supposed to be expected to know this?
and i give you props for riding the cruiser.....it challenges you and works you out more than a light road bike, working you out more. but in the end, you'll realize that you are stronger and growing muscle faster than the weightless fixie-fiends. this is one of the reasons why i ride my mountain bike.... but thats besides the point.
for being a good sport about being dropped, that makes it okay because you realize that you make the choice to come on a slow bike..... but still try your best anyway. the rides where i really have to try to keep up on are frustrating almost the whole ride..... then at the end, it's incredible. so keep on truckin on that thing!
but if you want to start keeping up......bring a real bike...... LOL
GIRL POWER i was riding next to you before the ride entered the airport and i made the comment that you should use a gear with more gusto and you said you were in the highest gear! i notice you were spinning your gear and going no where fast ! also if you notice that on MNR majority of the rider are on some type of a road bike hence what seems fast to you on a cruiser is a slow and normal pace to us or road bike users ! just sayin . okay i am done.
Alright dude .. this is getting out of control ... Listen .. I'm sorry you got dropped.. I will admit the ride has gotten fast but not by much... anytime we do go fast I always stop and wait after so everyone can catch up. Last night we did wait .. someone even did the loop again to look for you ... As for getting dirty looks .. out of my control ... You are the only person that stresses how we go to fast on the ride.....I have no complaints from anyone else .. even from people that did the ride when _iJunes led the ride .. I give you props for coming to the ride and giving your all. I'm sorry if you feel discouraged and hope you find a ride that suites what your looking for in one of the many MR rides.
