Hope you are able to come up with the money....
if it is something temporary you should contact the servicer (lender) and see if they have any options... it is difficult because they are in the business of making money so if you do not have any resources or potential to make money soon they will most likely not help you very much.... however, if you are able to show that you will have a job soon or try to get a roommate or find a way to stay up float for the time being... the servicer's are a headache to deal with... they will ask for a lot of paperwork (bank statements, pay stubs if any, taxes).... if you have not, you should also contact non profits that can assist you with the process too....
if you have tried all these steps and nothing comes about.... try to find out who the investors are... if it is freddie mac or fannie mae, maybe you can try to contact them directly... if your case is extreme, push to make it public too...write to news reports, bloggers and so forth....

that program by the state of california will not being until November 2010...but i wouldnt know if you would qualify for it....
if you do not see a potential to make money soon... you will have to confront and begin to develop an alternative plan.... you should about 7-8 months depending on how fast the bank files the notice of default.... another option is a short sale (depending on how much you owe and how much the property is appraised).... seek assistance from one of the non profits.... they can and should advocate for you.... good luck....
