kushtown all the way fuck all haters, get something better to do and learn to take everyone as an individual. people steal, tag, etc. for different reasons and everyone has a different expeerience with life. the only reason more kushtowners do it is because the community that k-town riders attract are more of a street nature and grew up differently than suburb kids who have money. MONEY IS THE ISSUE HERE!!! Separation of class. Louisbianchi seems to be offended like a typical person not used to seeing shit raw in the streets. talk all the shit you want i will wipe it gladly.

It is a class and culture issue and a complicated one. In many circumstances there can be nothing 'wrong' about tagging and stealing. Stealing from large, corporate stores should be encouraged.
The issue is: when is it a bad idea? I think it is a bad idea when there are a large group of people gathered who don't support it. You run a higher risk of being caught. Use some judgment on when you steal or tag then everyone is happier and safer.

Bicycling, stealing, tagging, skatteboarding, are all responses to a concrete jungle that we've been locked into. I just think that people spend way too much time worrying about how the actions of a few individuals are going to affect the "general perception" of the bike scene.
Since cyclists are a minority I think there is a tendency among us to think that the actions of 1 or a few will some how greatly affect the perception of all of us.
Yes, a great deal of media attention or cyclists trends do start to have an effect on the mass perception of cyclists. But for the most part, I think cops & drivers on the road understand that we are all individuals, just like they are and we will all make our own behavioral decisions.
I think what we actually see (no matter what the actual facts are) is the the majority of people who have a prejudice against cyclists will take whatever information they receive and mold it to reconfirm their thoughts.
Like some of the comments about critical mass from the L.A. times that are quoted in the
CM police Brutality Thread there was one person claiming that they witnessed riders flipping off peds, intentionally crashing into peds, and throwing stuff at peds ... I have never seen or heard of anything like that on any ride ... I simply don't believe it. On the other hand some bike haters will take this of evidence that cyclists are a bunch of assholes and the majority will ignore it or take it with a grain of salt.
Which I guess gets me to Kush Town ... just as the actions of some of the people on that ride do not make up the totality of what that ride is about, neither does that ride represent or pretend to represent the bike scene as a whole (if that was even possible).
In actuality, I think that the consistently biggest annoyance for cops and drivers is that many of the biggest bike rides cork for multiple light cycles and often take up the entire road, preventing any other traffic from sharing the roadway.
I think that we would do well to focus our efforts on improving the behavior of the mass instead of focusing only on the rehensible actions of a few.

sk84ever you are right MONEY is the issue. But here you have a huge community ready to kick it with you guys and not give a damn about money. people are from everywhere and yet they all get together and ride a bicycle. why alienate your chance to get to know the suburb kids from other backgrounds and why keep them from knowing you. The more we all get to know each other the more we all realize that money is nothing. friendships and camaraderie are what is really value-able.
so just like a lot of kids (that presume-ably ride kushtown) don't like to be pigeon-holed and hated on, neither do the suburban kids like to be grouped into categories... someone has to get the party started. one of the groups has to put out the first olive branch and the other group has to take it.
stealing and tagging makes sense when you are young and it makes sense when you grow up "seeing shit raw in the streets." but even the most hardcore taggers (some of the most prolific in history are suburban kids from wealthy families) wake up one day and the desire leaves them... they got older, wiser, got a criminal record and cant get a job... the rich kids get lawyers and have that shit erased, but the broke kids are stuck with a record and burn out.... either way the love of graff fades... but bike riding lasts for a lifetime because it keeps you healthy and agile.
you won't see it now, but maybe hit up some veteran graff writers and thieves, see where they are at.... the ones who put in work might have a different outlook by the time they hit 30 or 40... the game is never won, you run on the treadmill for 3-5 years and then things start to hit you...
most of the people on here aren't hating on kushtown. I'm not. But you have to know that the tagging game is temporary and stealing is just giving in to monetary desires. you cant defeat the system, you will get caught up at some point... your actions now will have consequences you just might regret 10-20 years from now. We are all mixing in this together and if some kids steal or tag under the cover of the rides, the cops come to Midnight Ridazz and bring attention to our little classless utopia... you and kushtown are an important part of that utopia. We all are looking out for the family.... When kids get beat down on bikes by cops, there are people there to fight back. that won't happen for tagger or thieves granted, but it will happen for ANYONE who gets unfairly treated by cops. You just have to work with the people who are helping. You have to calm the stealing and tagging because it will be thrown back into the face of anyone who tries to help the situation.
I know it's difficult to see it from where you are at... hopefully these words will be here 20 years from now and you might look back at them and think about them differently when it's your son or daughter riding a bike in the streets....

and this goes for all you talking shit about Kushtown too... you people need to calm yourselves and understand that lifestyles are different in the city. most of us have no idea about the point of view of these kids and their lives. But One basic thing about life transends all, if you put out an olive branch, most people take it and give one back. Most people when confronted with hostility give it right back and some. So calm yourselves and just try to love as best you can. Everyone has their place in this LA bicycle utopia we ALL have created. Yup, when people steal and tag, it's not a good look for the scene as a whole. but you aren't going to get to these kids by talking shit that's for sure. maybe you will NEVER get the message across to everyone... but I do see some kids getting away from the stealing and realizing that the hassles that come from the cops just aint worth it.... Kushtown is made up of MANY kids with different attitudes. Don't pigeon-hole them. Try to influence them by showing them love and respect. The few that do steal and tag (on ANY ride not just kushtown) might just give it up.... just gotta keep working at it.

i'm mentoring a kid from the ghetto who i met on midnight ridazz. he used to ride out with some thieves from his neighborhood. if we didnt start looking out for him, he probably would have gotten into it too.
im not rich by any means, but i have this community. they have made all the difference. when his bike got stolen by his neighborhood crackhead (because poor people are more likely to get jacked than rich people) i told him he could earn a bike from the bike oven or bike kitchen.
if you're a thief in this community, it's not because you have to be to make it, it's because you don't get what midnight ridazz is about. lift up your community and stop condoning your neighbor-fucking behavior. you have no idea where these people you call "suburban" are coming from or who they are.

Let's start with teh basics:
Me and Leen have been working hard these past few months, trying to get the ride to be as peaceful and orderly as most other rides:
- We don't have liqour stops now more :D
- We stop less to prevent those that carry graffiti supplies from tagging wherever we stop. (I'm sure they always carry, but since we've picked up our pace, they either ride or get dropped for a stupid tag that'll get buffed in a few days)
- I personally stopped encouraging people from getting liqour before the ride, to minimize safety hazards that spring up in the street.
There's been a great overall improvement in all aspects of the ride. For those that have done their dirt with KTOWN, will admit to that hands down.
I won't lie, some people that attend my ride hate Midnight Ridazz, for the very reason that you're all here today reading this post. (ONLINE DRAMA!) And not to point fingers, but there's only a SELECT few that still talk shit about ktown, just as theres only a SELECT few that steal and tag at ktown, or any other ride.
No one needs this shit.
But it's all a big misunderstanding. Sooner or later you'll see why..

my point was that if you don't have it handed down to you, there are two ways to get it:
1. you can make friends in the community and it will support you, or...
2. you can steal and make enemies.
i know a lot of people who are disadvantaged who have come to the community and found friendship, support and even food and housing when they needed it.
it's not just about who have it handed down, its about who are willing to be a part of the community and who are just here to take.

Sorry to hear that man. I went on this ride once. It was a good ride but the stealing and tagging did suck. You guys ride at a great pace and I like K-town. I just wish
kids on the ride didn't have suck a negative out look on life.
